The Second and Eighth Houses -- Mine and Yours

Unfortunately, this is about the part where the physical objects end.  After the angles, there are no physical boundaries that connect any other houses to something that can be viewed.  From this point forward, the houses are calculated using complicated mathematical logarithms based on longitude, latitude, and other complicated mathematical things.  The mathematical formula used for this particular house line is based off of longitude and latitude, as well as the Ascendant/Descendant line.

Astrology’s third act of division is that between what is mine and what is yours.  The Second and Eighth house line reveals an interesting rule for astrological houses.  Second houses are the houses of substance and show what the house they are connected to have.  So, the Second house shows what the First house has, the Third house shows what the Second house has, the Fourth shows what the Third has, etc, etc, etc.  The Second/Eighth house line is also known as the line of exchange.  Normally, people exchange goods, and so the Second and Eighth lines are called into question.

The Second House Dissected
The Second house governs everything we own that is not property (as in land), so all forms of ‘moveable’ objects are shown by this house.  This house is not so shallow though, as it also reflects our talents as that which we come into the world with, and our values and morals.  This house concerns our earnings and financial status (so if you have a weak Second house lord – like me – you’re apparently out of luck).

This house enjoys the Sign Taurus and the planet Jupiter as its co-significators.  Taurus is the Sign of material comforts, so its association with the Second seems rather comfortable.  Jupiter is the planet of wealth and giving, so again, this connection is rather obvious.  No planet is said to rejoice in this house.  Modern astrology holds Venus as the ruler of this house as the ruler of Taurus.

The Eighth house Dissected
The Eighth house operates as the Second to the Seventh, and so governs that which the Seventh house has; basically the Eighth house represents other people’s goods and money.  This paints a rather shallow picture of this house, but it’s quite the profound house.  This house relates to death, grief, and anxiety.  The Eighth house is usually associated with things that are no longer needed and can be removed.  It is a vastly agricultural house, representing the concept of reaping what has been sown and clearing the way for that which is to come.  Also, this house represents our unconscious.

For this house, the co-significators are the Sign Scorpio and the planet Saturn.  Scorpio is often a Sign concerned with such destructive tendencies as shown by the Eighth house.  Saturn as an agricultural planet and the Soldier of Ruin makes an excellent partner to the Eighth house and its concepts of death.  Again, no planet rejoices in this house.  Modern astrology holds Pluto as the ruler of this house as the ruler of Scorpio.
