hi --

I remember how, many many years ago, when I was working as an electronics engineer, I got interested in something called Logical Positivism, or what some might call A Mathematician's View of Reality and the Truth.

The more I studied these philosophers, the more confused I got.  Finally, I made a check in the index of every book I had on the subject, and discovered that the words 'meaning' and 'value' NEVER once appeared.

'Meaning' is a human trait, like color or sweet or sour, and does not exist in the world of logic.  So when you ask for the 'logical meaning' of the astrological glyphs you are using a contradicdtion in terms.

The glyph for Libra, for example, represents the scales for Balancing different human traits and emotions.  That is what astrology was all about, in the ancient world.  Further, the sign of Libra, coming at the beginning of Fall, is exactly halway through the year.  And this point in time IS the point of balance.

I suppose one could call this the 'logic' of our Dream Minds.  (?)

Maybe you could rephrase your question?

cheers

The excellent book "Sextrology," by astrologers Stella Starsky and Quinn Cox, gives interesting definitions and interpretations of the glyphs.

It would probably be wrong to copy all their definitions here, but this is what the book says about Libra's symbol:

"The Libran emblem is the planet Venus, the morning star and the evening star. It is also read as the Scales themselves. The only inanimate symbol of the zodiac, Libra can likewise give the impression of being unreal or just too plain good or talented to be true, depending on whom you ask. Whereas Libra woman weighs others with the Scales of her judgment, Libra man seeks to find balance within himself."

The glyphs are representations of the constellations in their most basic form. Each star in a constellation was found to have influence over a specific thing (for instance the stars in Aries has influences over Rams, where as Canis Major/Minor over Dogs) and therefore those stars which corresponded to the animals which they influenced were joined. Later the thing which they influenced (be it humans, animals, anything), were later turned into their shape in the sky in maps so people could easily identify the constellations. They were later reduced into specific signs for Astrological purposes. I hope that answers your question.
