A COOKBOOK ON CABAL-ASTROL
Or “How to Cook the Planets’
In a previous post on how the Chinese interpreted the word ‘Tao’, we quoted several sources that indicated how the words Tao and Meaning might be synonyms for something that exists only in human beings, and that something is Consciousness, in the sense of Conscious Awareness. It is the unique kind of conscious awareness that is found in humans that gives meaning to experience and to life.
The powers that we humans possess are separate from Consciousness but do the work that Consciousness needs to have done. Further, these are common powers, shared powers, and even magical powers. In some of his texts on Alchemy Jung – quoting ancient sources, has referred to them as ‘gods’:
‘the ancients had said: “All things are full of gods”’ The gods were “divine powers which are diffused in things”. Zoroaster had called them “divine allurements,” and Synesius said they were “symbolic inticements”’
In other words, the ‘powers’ which can infect us and can drive us mad, and often act as if they are autonomous (and were called ‘gods’ or ‘goddesses’ for that reason; and, they actually inhabit matter, but can be controlled by Consciousness.
In another alchemical treatise, Carl Jung identifies four goddesses, standing around a circle, as ‘the four seasons of the Sun in the circle of the Zodiac (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) and at the same time … the four elements “combined” … The synthesis of the elements is effected by means of the circular movement in time of the Sun through the houses of the Zodiac … (and) the aim of the circulation is the production (or rather, reproduction) of the Original Man, who was a sphere.’
This quotation is just one of dozens which also identify the powers of the gods with the powers of the signs and planets. It is also one of dozens of places which identify the purpose of the circulation of the heavens to be the reproduction of Original Man – meaning the archetypal pattern for all human beings, male and female. And clearly, despite the nonsense written in so many books on astrology, it was the ancients who knew that astrology was a symbolic system, used to represent the unfoldment of actual men and women in time.
What I intend to begin here is a Cook Book, explaining how the Cabalists might interpret a natal chart. Everyone is invited to play along, or – to ignore me.
The first few examples will use Vishwas’ chart, but if others are interested, I will be happy to use your chart for examples of some of the steps. .
My next post will outline the basic five steps in my Cook Book.
