My sincere sympathies with regard to your mom!
Pluto is the planet of changes (usually big ones), but while the death of a mother CAN be one reading for Pluto transiting your natal moon, that is FAR from the usual reading. My mother is also deceased (in '97), but Pluto was not crossing my natal
moon.
Having a "literal" reading of such a conjunction is not typical, but is certainly possible. When Saturn crossed my Pisces ascendant, I broke my ankle by slipping on ice. That would be a somewhat "literal" reading of that transit. Pisces (ruling) feet, the ascendant (the physical person) and Saturn crossing it (ruling bones). But IME with
astrology for about 15 years now, that was atypical, not typical. Transits can manifest in a variety of ways, albeit not in ALL ways. E.g., there's a limited range of possibility (contra the nay-sayers), but within that, various manifestations. This is why, while I do pay attention to transits, I take them as "general atmosphere" rather than predicting specifics.
