There are still things out there in this world that have not been encountered.  As we grow as a civilization, we will encounter more and more that has never been encountered before.  

Think of cryptozoology.  There are many "mythical" creatures that are out there that have a basis in fact.  Even some microbes, viruses, and such have not been encountered.  Think of the many things that have come into being in the last century.  AIDS, Legionnaires disease, ebola and the like are just recent discoveries.  I don't know if they were there and just weren't identified as such or if they just had not been encountered or a combo of the two.

We don't know what may yet be encountered as our population pushes out into regions that have not been explored.
