I ran across this several years ago, and something made me think of it again, and so I want to post some of it for your input.  Hope you enjoy

It's a great conversation starter: "What's your sign?"
But before you ask or answer that question, consider this: your zodiac sign corresponds to the position of the sun relative to constellations as they appeared over 2200 years ago!
Early astronomers observed the Sun traveling through the signs of the Zodiac in the course of one year, spending about a month in each. Thus, they calculated that each constellation extends 30 degrees across the ecliptic.
However, a phenomenon called precession has altered the position of the constellations we see today.
The table below lists the dates when the Sun is actually within the astronomical constellations of the Zodiac, according to modern constellation boundaries and corrected for precession (these dates can vary a day from year to year).

You will most likely find that once precession is taken into account, your zodiac sign is different. And if you were born between November 29 and December 17, your sign is actually one you never saw in the newspaper: you are an Ophiuchus! The eliptic passes through the constellation of Ophiuchus after Scorpius.

Capricorn - Jan 20 to Feb 16
Aquarius - Feb 16 to Mar 11
Pisces - Mar 11 to Apr 18
Aries - Apr 18 to May 13
Taurus - May 13 to Jun 21
Gemini - Jun 21 to Jul 20
Cancer - Jul 20 to Aug 10
Leo - Aug 10 to Sep 16
Virgo - Sep 16 to Oct 30
Libra - Oct 30 to Nov 23
Scorpius - Nov 23 to Nov 29
Ophiuchus - Nov 29 to Dec 17
Sagittarius - Dec 17 to Jan 20

So what are your thoughts on this!?!

Well this provides a wonderful opportunity to integrate a form of western astrology which uses a system similar to the interlocking wheels of the Mayan Calander.

It must be remembered that the traditional form of the Zodiac does not
relate only to the Sun and Stars but also the Earth Seasons. There for Aries must begin spring as it is the energy of beginning, the breaking of the seed.

I like Dr. Louis Turi's housing system as it is simple and very easy to
accustom the intuition to. However it is now time for Ophiuchus to be integrated into Astrology on a large scale.

I believe the ancients knew and used it, however I think it has been an
esoteric or secret knowledge related to the 13 months of the lunar calendar.

So in short, I consider the month a person was born to determine their first house and soul's purpose sign, according to traditional timing patterns
related to the seasons, April-Aries, May-Taurus and so on. I do think there is something we can learn or gain by integrating the current position of constellations as a separate and interlocking wheel, but this is obviously a work in progress.

Using Dr. Turi's housing system the sun will always be in the first or second house, and the ascendant is what will be in a relative location, which makes sense as the ascendant is how we appear to the world, initial appearance, strenghts of relating. This is with my current level of understanding which is, concerning the ascendant, not complete to say the least.

Peace

This article's idea of precession is very simplified.  After approximately 25,700 years, the positions of the astrological signs will be back where they began since a fixed point on earth would continue through every sign of the zodiac until it got back to its original position.  The changes caused by the tilt in the earth's axis relative to the fixed stars positions actually changes very little...it takes 25,700 years for a full progression through all of the signs.  If the idea that precession changes your sun sign is justified, then we are almost back to the original positions anyway.  It is also necessary to consider where your position is with precession.  If you are determining sun signs by looking at the stars from your position on earth (how sun signs are typically calculated and determined), then your sun sign isn't going to change.  But, if you use some point out in the galaxy to look at the earth's position relative to the fixed stars, then the sun signs would actually change every year.  Using precession as a way to determine your sun sign would cause everyone's sun sign to change through every sign of the zodiac during this 25,700 year cyclic period.  I reject the idea that this changes your sun sign significantly, or into another sign.  But if someone wants to use precession to determine sun signs, the ones given in this article are wrong.  Because of the shape of the earth (not an exactly round object), the length of each sun sign is not a fixed number of degrees.  So if someone wanted to take into consideration the precession of the earth to determine a sun sign they could not in any accuracy simply say that each sun sign was exactly the same width or number of degrees forever, like the table listed.  Aries, for example, might be 35 degrees wide, and Taurus 28 degrees, etc.  Then, over time, Aries would change to 32 degrees, and Taurus to 26 degrees, etc.  Basically, if you're going to use precession to determine the sun signs, do it accurately.  I think there are far more things that affect a chart in much greater significance than precession.

I've read about this!  Some folks say that changes in the Earth's rotation after thousands of years have left us with an incongruous Western zodiac.  The constellations that used to smile down at us at certain times in the year are now smiling at different times.    I don't claim to know squat about it, but it is an interesting concept indeed.

Taking Aries as an example: I would still be an Aries.  But I'm in the minority, as there are only 2 (or arguably 3) days of overlap.

Off topic, but wasn't there yet another sign that looked like a whale?   Good times.
