Polarity is not a western/eastern divide! Polarity is another name for duality, a concept very deeply embedded in eastern and western thought: right/wrong, true/false, good/bad, malefic/benefic, high/low, negative/positive, heavy/light, police/criminal, politician/oppressed, etc,!

As the cynics say at the beginning of their daily meetings: Everyone poles everyone else, only some of them spell the word as, "POLL!"

As long as there is astrology, significant in your life and reality, the poles are too!

I agree with your definitions of how the elements combine. At least they seem to correspond with the charts I've done. But I disagree regarding the ascendant. I think we manifest the ascendant more as children and grow into our sun.

Surely it would be too simplistic to assume that this applies to everyone. Perhaps not everyone follows this progression from ascendant to the sun!

If this were indeed the case, the sun-sign readings that many papers and magazines give (because they are convenient) would apply more to the older people and be more accurate for them than for individuals that are younger.

Is that the case? Has anyone studied if that is the case? It would be such an easy and obvious proof, don't you think?

Of course it's simplistic, generalities usually are:smt002. But if you're talking about  newspaper horoscopes then they really only apply to the rising sign in an equal house chart. Anyone who's done a few charts knows that a person may or may not resemble their sun sign or rising sign or moon. For example
a Sagittarian with the sun conjunct Pluto and a stellium of planets in Scorpio, may resemble a scorpion if the ruler of their rising sign is in a water sign. Ok maybe not the best example but it's late here. Anyway I think the descriptions of how the yin and yang combine was well done and surprizingly accurate.

Newspaper horoscope readings generally are for sunsigns and not rising signs! Particularly the western ones which take the tropical zodiac into consideration.

Without going into a debate of tropical vs sidereal zodiacs or usefulness of sunsigns -- bringing the topic back to 'focus', I was not convinced about the statement that was made in this thread that a person grows from the rising sign to his/her sunsign. This has simply not been tested to be true and therefore should not be used even as a generalization. An easy way to test would be that younger individuals would be more like their rising signs and older ones would be like their sunsigns. A very simple and easily testable test-design. Perhaps individuals should do that before making claims that the rising sign to sun sign progression is even common, let alone universal! Otherwise, what would be the point of using that tenet?

Please NOTE that I am challenging the thought and not you or whoever said that first!
