Will this work out fine, does it seem like marriage may occur or is it short term relationship?

We have been together for a while but the situation he is in (financial) seems to be a hindrance for him (as well as alcohol and excessive smoking). I just want to know if things will get better for him as well for me in our relationship and his situation???
