I was just reading the learning section for verdic astrology and its a bit hard for me to grasp in a short period of time. I guess i'm not good at associating new names with things i'm already familiar with :(

Can someone simplify this a little for me? Are there any main differences in the information you are obtaining from this over Western? It appears everyone is asking the same kind of questions (i.e. Relationship & Career). I have a hard time with things like chinese astrology and thinking everyone born in my YEAR has the same trait as me (the OX). As for western astrology ...i again have a hard time understanding how my 2 virgo friends can be so different, one is not very virgo-ish at all. I'm reading things about rising signs and cusps....really all i'm getting is that every sign is really just a big mix of other signs with one kind of being dominant.

Sorry for being so "logical" about all of this...but thats how my mind works these things out. And sorry for not formulating my thoughts better on this...it's hard to do when you don't know anything about it. I figure asking people who have done their homework on this already will cut down my learning time

So what do you look for in a good reading? is probably my next question?

Hi! Horrid,
It is Vedic and not verdic as you have spelled it. It will be a bit difficult initially, remeber to learn to speak and understand the language you first learnt took lots of time and processing. Slowly it will be like second nature. I know of one of my co-student having absolutely no exposure to Indian languages and symbolisms, pick up the subject so well that he went on to become a teacher and even i learn from him, and all this in a short period of one year. He is today avery famous teacher, author and a superb Jyotishi (Astrologer) and the remedies he suggests are something even we (born and brought up in India) are surprised. It shows his deep knowledge of Indian culture and Scriptures.   All this in a span of three to four years.

Can someone simplify this a little for me? Are there any main differences in the information you are obtaining from this over Western?
The planets and the signs are the same. It is just that i have used Indian names for them. the reason for this is that. for the serious study of Jyotish you should read the classical texts of Jyotish and all these are in Sanskrit (the purified language), unless you are comfortable with Sanskrit names for the Planets and Signs you will not be able to understand this vast sources of deep knowledge. Also we use mantras frequently in remedies and all these are in Sanskrit.
It appears everyone is asking the same kind of questions (i.e. Relationship & Career).
There is a reason for this. You see the two Rajasik Grahas (planets) are Budha (Mercury) and Shukra (Venus) and they rule the two areas of life you have mentioned (for more understanding see the vedic lesson 5). People are Rajasik by nature and hence these queries will be the staple for JYOTISHAS to takle.

logic is helpful but remeber there are times when there is a sudden flash and you get the answer and it also turns out to be logical but, not derived by the logical process.

This is a very subjective matter and everyone will have thier own yardsticks to measure this. If you ask me then a reading that makes you aware of your own duties towards yourself, the family, the society and the world is a very good reading. One which makes you stand in front of a mirror and makes you look hard at your image in it.
the reading should suggest ways to change things that you dont like in the image and ways to enhance the thing that are good.

Just my two cents.
