>>"'The Virtues of Selfishness'"
Every Jeeva is selfish, otherwise it will be liberated and not remain a Jeeva. Without Selfishness, a Jeeva will not survive at all.
But as we proceed on the ladder of evolution, we find individuals caring for their offsprings, and further up on the ladder we find social beings caring for others. Thus, a society functions as a single Jeeva, each individual functioning as a cell in a body. When a cell forgets its duties in the body and starts self-replication without any check, we call it Cancer. In a society, if a person behaves similarly, we label this Cancer as "Selfishness". If there is no society, Selfishness is not a sin, as in lower animals. Selfishness is a sin only in a society, only among social beings, in which well being of an individual must bot threaten the well being of others. This principle is the basis of Ethics (morality), which is real Dharma.
Out of four Purushaarthas, Artha and Kaama are virtues because they are part of Duty of a person towards his / her body, family and society. To earn money or to marry is not sinful. But uncontrolled lust for money, power, sex is sin. Uncontrolled Selfishness is the source of all sins, there cannot be any virtue in it in a Social community. Only lower creatures can thrive on Selfishness, because they cannot care for others.
Dharma teaches us that our selfless works are rewarded by God. A Godless person will ask why should I waste my time and energies in a selfless work unless I do not get anything in return, at least fame and recognition if not money &c. Fear of God is a check on lower instincts of Selfishness. That is why Nietzsche said 'Fear is the Mother of Morality'. And Voltaire said if there is no God, we should create Him in order to keep humans morally sound.

Well...I assume this is your belief....some of the statements seems a bit easy for me.
As for God and moral, there is NO prove that one who believe in God have greater moral then one who don't....Even many Leaders inside any religion might have lack of moral, when it comes to own benefit.
As for the Godless, and their Selfish way of thinking I might give you some clue about some of them
http://www.celebatheists.com/wiki/Main_Page
and in fact you might also include me, since I see God as the starting Energies..the creation...which we all are a part of....so none of us is God....but together with everything we become God..just like every atom is a part of us...and atoms is what builds it all....so maybe we all (here on earth) are just a part of God's big toe?.......but that is just my Belief.

Dear Vinay ji,
I do understand that 'selfishness' is "bad" and 'unselfishness' is "good"......morality...... etc.
But what we are trying to............... ARRIVE at are some strongly ASTRO pointers; for which, I mentioned.. virtues of selfishness.
RR ji gave a very good example of that just above mentioning 'cats and dogs'
Okay, you mentioned the virtues of Selflessness
Let us see who else comes up with some virtues of selflessness/selfishness.................. I hope not morality, as we are aware that selfishness is bad, and selflessness is good

Those who lack morals but carry the flag of religion are labeled "Dharma-dhwajee" pejoratively by Vyaasa Ji in Mahabharata. I do not distinguish morality from divinity. But God may be defined variously by different persons. Basically, your belief is in tune with mine, only the language is different.
