I am inrigued by the horoscope matching trends.

Would any of you enlightened ones please let me know what the differences are between the north indian and south indian trends of horoscope matching?

Ashtakuta Guna Milap
Following eight agreements called Ashtakuta Guna Milap  (Ashta means eight in Sanskrit, Kuta means compatibility, Guna means characteristic, Milap means agreement) are generally checked

1.     Varna - to check work compatibility and when matched point allotted is 1
2.     Vashya - to check dominance compatibility and when matched point allotted is 2
3.     Tara - to check destiny compatibility and when matched point allotted is 3
4.     Yoni - to check mentality compatibility and when matched point allotted is 4
5.     Graha Maitri - to check general compatibility and when matched point allotted is 5
6.     Gana - to check guna compatibility and when matched point allotted is 6
7.     Bhakoota - to check love compatibility and when matched point allotted is 7
8.     Nadi - to check health compatibility and when matched point allotted is 8

Out of the possible maximum 36 points, a minimum of eighteen should be matching to ensure compatibility  . The compatibility basically is based on the Nakshatra and underlying Rasi in the boy's and girl's chart. This type of matching is predominately in the North India.

Dasa Porutham (10 Koota)

In South India, kootas agreement is checked by examining the birth stars and the underlying Janma rasis, of the boy and girl. The Dasa Kootas (10 Kootas) are

1.  Dinam (Dinath Ayushyam Aarokyam)              
               Health and free from all diseases
2.  Ganam (Sobanam Ganam Evacha)
               Sex, human minds and temprement
3. Yoni ( Yonitho Dhampathy Sneham )
               Sexual compatability
4.  Rasi ( Rasinam Vamsavirthi Kiruth )
               Family continuity by birth of son
5.  Rasiyathipaty ( Santhanam Rasiythipathy )    
               Children
6.  Rajju ( Rajju Mngalya Vrithysyath )
               Happiness and long life
7. Vedha ( Vedhaya Sohanasanam )      
               Evils and pitfalls
8.  Vasya ( Vasyath Anniyonnia Vasyaham )
               Attachment
9. Mahendhram ( Mahendram Puthira   Vrithisyath )    
               Wealth including children
10.  Stree Deergam ( Stree Deergath Sarva   Sampathha )
               Span of married life

Apart from these 10 kootas, kuja dosha (ill effects of Mars) and relationship between planets will be considered.

Hardly an 'enlightened' one, let me remind you that kootas whether 8 or 10, and beloved of McJyotishis (rhyming with fast food giant McDonald!) just take into consideration a very small slice of horoscopic real estate!

I agree with the rohinirajan in most of the points with relevance to kuta matching.

However I feel the Gana, Yoni and Nadi still holds water to date. Think also like a non astrologer on the three points
