Sir, you wrote : "what intrigues me is what was the first Karma/Action, that set the cascade of rebirths that continues? Christians brethren got away with the story of genesis, and many other religious beliefs perhaps have similar scriptural explanations. You can help us all by explaining in brief what was/is given in Sanatan Dharma. "

I do not think I digressed. But I might have gone along lines different from what you expected. There is no FIRST Karma because every Jeeva is Anaadi.

English is so inadequate (though I obviously love it!) sometimes when we try to write indian languages using 26 letters!

You say Anaadi, I say Ana(r)di! (Raj Kapoor waala)

But, seriously, I think the first KArMA was simply desire! As Jeeva separated or more like 'individualized' (don't know why, who, when, where, how!), it developed two Kama. One to move back to TAO (GOD-STATE; PURE CONSCIOUSNESS) that it came from, and the other to explore, now that it had separated or distanced from TAO, its Gnan-kosha or awareness became limited and it also became aware of Free-will. It could either go back, or go forth and explore on its own. And perhaps it is a cyclical thing as per divine plan (Leela). And from there all duality or sense of duality was born. Also the Horns of Dilemma! Even now basically we see that internal struggle between attachment and renunciation, to a small or larger extent in all of us! Hence I have always believed that the ultimate solution of KARMA and dissolution of its paash (remedy) is detachment! When through detatchment one attains TAO, one realizes that Jeeva and Bhagvan never separated really. Like the phases of moon, growth, Acme, Decay, Merger (debility), and similarly seen in the exaltation-debilitation of all planets (paksha cycle of a planet), symbolically, the cycle of duality and Union oscillates.

Sounds a bit 'stream of consciousness' musing, and perhaps it is, because I am an ordinary sansarik person, but the belief perhaps is not entirely mine and must have been shaped by my observations, recollections and even some scriptural influence that I might have studied and subconsciously incorporated. One thing I can assure you, that to the best of my knowledge and awareness, it was not some disembodied voice from the 15th dimension that infused these musings into my head!

The story of Genesis also starts from desire. The symbolic devil/serpant gets the blame but the apple too had some role in the tempting of Eve! If God did not create The Garden of Eden, there would be no temptation and no snakes either! But allegorically again, maybe God wanted the Jeeva (Eeva!) to experience duality, so that Her descendants could experience and then decide which way to go! Back to God (Prodigal Son) or become an explorer (Shrikanta)! But now I am mixing apples and Roshogollas!

Sage Ramanujaachaarya wrote that Karma is Seminal Ejaculation. Freud also said that every volition or action hides Libido within it, without Kaama there can be no Karma. Superficially, one may perform an altruistic Karma, but the hidden cause is Libido. Therefore, complete detachment from fruits / Apples / Roshogollas of Karma and complete surrender to God or Spiritual Guru is the only way to get rid of cycle of rebirths. After due time of course, a stage comes when the circle of Self expands and gradually encompasses everything : then there is no distinction between one and many. Then, duality ends and real samaadhi is attained.

You are right is saying that Karma starts from Kaama / Desire.

How else do you think CREATION began?
Man was made in the image of God, some say!
Others think it is vice versa!

Both could not be right simultaneously unless...
