if the aspect of two planets are close within 5 degrees. But planets are in two different signs. In my chart mars is in the second house Cancer 28 degrees and Venus 2 Degrees..  Would you say these planets are conjunct ? And i have heard when mars and venus are conjunct makes the native good in math and such. I know i am great in math. I was wondering just the effects of these plants. 5 degrees apart in diff signs

Hi whitey ji,
You mean Mars in cancer 28 degrees and Venus in Leo 2 degrees..
If 2 planets are in 2 different raashis then they will be considered in Different Raashis only,
thus conjunction is not a valid idea as per my understanding..
Though there may be possibilty that your time of birth may have some variation.

Also the yoga mentioned by you is not the only way person can be good in maths.
There are many other ways we have to look at the chart

Namashkar ji. Ketu in D9 is in fourth house.  But in D1 ketu is in the third house with venus conjuct with each other with less than a degree.

How signs are defined is that each Rashi is sort of a fixed point between two other signs.  Jupiter for example is mooltrikona is the the sign of Sagittarius.  Jupiter is debilitated in the sign of Capricorn.   Jupiter does much better in the nakshatra of Uttarashada than the later nakshatras  of Capricorn because Uttarashada is still being majorly effected by the energies of Sagittarius because there isn't exactly a rigid border between the signs. The Capricornian portion of Uttarashada is where Sagittarius's philosophical focuses become externalized and determined.  

To answer your question, the conjunctions do matter.  Maybe not as strongly, but the portions close to where the signs meet are still being effected by both sign lords.  Hence, they have similar energies.
