Hindu religion is not founded by any particular person. In vedas and upanishads we see a blend of philosophy with theology - unlike in western religions. Vedas and upnishads are not concerned with prophecies and astrology. Some prophecies are found in Srimadbhagawad Geeta.

"When there is decline in dharma
and increase in adharma, I take
birth to protect good and punish
evil, time and again."
--7,8 Gnana Yoga.

Divination (seeing the future) is not sanctioned by Christian and Islamic scriptures.
"Ye who believe
intoxicants and gambling
(Dedication of) stones,
And (divination by) Arrows,
Are an abominator
Of Satan's handy work
Eschew such (abomination)
That ye may prosper."
--Ayat 93 Sura 5.

Hindu puranas like Mahabharata, Srimadramayana, Devi Bhagawata mention birth charts, muhurtas etc. Astrology was elaborately used in fixing suitable time for conducting religious ceremonies like yagna and marriages in vedic days.

There is a sloka in sanskrita which means:-

"A sanyasi wants to know his salvation When he meets a good astrologer;
Is there any surprise, if you see me, having many aspirations and tribulations, Standing at the doorstep of an astrologer? "

Dear Astrologers,

I wish to  see  your participation in this topic, why only we Hindus are  found mostly showing much  affinity towards Astrology than others ?

Hi,

Maybe it is because in Hindu religion epics, which denote more a way of life, contains many prophecies by Gods, etc...even curses;..... and these were seen to mature.

Obviously Religious books, ways of life would affect us.

Prasanna ji,

I dont think that civilizations who did not follow hinduism did not prophesize. Astrology itself in various forms has been found to be in extensive use across continents. Palmistry, mysticism by various names etc have been there all over.

Perhaps as Rishiji pointed out, the scriptures that Hindus have may not be just preachings as in case of other religions. They are more a portrayal of life in a holistic way. The good characters in them teach us good things while the bad characters teach us what to avoid and for what consequences.

I think we can find something similar in most religions. For e.g, Prophet Mohammed in Islam or the recorded miracles in Christianity that is the basis for conferring sainthood etc.

Hi,

I think you were more explicit in mentioning my thoughts.

Moses in Christianity also did make phrophecies, besides many other religions.
