I feel odd posting it on a public forum, so I thought I could learn by asking questions. The learning forum is not active, so I am posting here. My question is: if I use the software to calculate the position for any given day,it gives details like tara, murti, house etc. I wonder how I should interpret them. It says sampat (good) and so on. I am not sure how to make sense of them.

This may be frustrating to read as people are suggesting to you rather than answering your queries. Please misunderstand me not, but you seem to lack the will to learn, you wish only to  have reading (a specific one may be).
The learning forum is inactive as long as you (as learner) are inactive, so just get active there and post your questions (once you enroll yourself as student) about sampat, vipat etc..I bet your questions wont go unanswered. If learning is the sole motive follow the lessons.

If only a reading  is the aim, then reading forum is open to you. In this  present forum all generally discourage learning in tid-bids, but push towards thorough learning (implies -- how to make sense of various things in jyotish).
