Subject: [vedic-astrology] Soon JHora with Sri Surya Siddhanta Support
Namaste,
Happy Nava Ratris!
In a couple of weeks, I am going to release Jagannatha Hora 7.5 with Sri Surya
Siddhanta (SSS) support. SSS is an ancient Hindu analytical model of planetary
movement and it differs from the latest NASA models that are used in several
software programs including JHora. Though people assume that SSS is inaccurate
and that is why it differs from modern astronomy, it is possible that it is not
an issue of accuracy.
Just as all of us have subtle bodies (sookshma sareeras), planets also have
subtle bodies. The physical planets we see in the sky are their *projections* at
the *gross physical* level. It is possible that the subtle bodies of planets are
slightly away from physical planets and move based on beautiful mathematical
formulas that were revealed to ancient rishis. It is possible that the effect of
planets on us is NOT due to gravitational or electromagnetic effect of the
physical planets on our physical bodies, but due to the effect of the subtle
bodies of planets on our subtle bodies. If so, subtle bodies of planets need to
be used in
astrology.
In the recorded history of astrology and astrologers, the oracles of Nadi
astrology are the only ones to provide truly amazing and precise predictions
that seem to defy the laws of probability. Many commercial Nadi readers may be
working with fake texts or be too impatient to find the right page even when
having a genuine text and hence Nadi readings may go wrong. But we do know some
people who got amazing Nadi readings, that gave a lot of *objective* details
quite accurately. So there is something about Nadi texts. Interestingly, the
horoscopes quoted in Nadi texts use SSS!
Though a lot of us advocate a lot of different techniques, it is not clear to me
if any of us have actually cracked the puzzle completely. Despite any posturing
that may be resorted to by some astrologers, I have not seen anybody with a
replicable technique that can be mathematically evaluated and certified to work
based on a large sample set. Sincere seekers of Truth in Jyotish may agree with
me that we are all still groping in relative darkness (despite the glimpses of
nice light now and then) and that there may be big holes in our understanding of
the teachings of rishis.
Given that, sincere seekers of Truth should be interested in trying out various
options. Having been used by ancient astrologers (including Sri Varahamihira)
and used in Nadi texts, SSS is definitely a good candidate for trying. Thanks to
kind help from Sri Vinay Jha, author of Aditya Vahini panchangam published by
Govardhan Mutt (Puri Shankaracharya's mutt), Puri, I have implemeted support for
SSS in JHora. When 7.5 is released, JHora users can experiment with Sri Surya
Siddhanta.
We hope this will enable further researches and open a pathway towards a more
perfect understanding of the teachings of rishis oneday! Whether we are alive to
see that day or not, it is our responsibility to make whatever contribution we
can make towards enabling that day.
Best regards,
Narasimha
