Thanks ChanDubai for your supportive words!
I think it was Michael Erlewine who created MATRIX software company and produced many software packages primarily for tropical astrologer but then also what was perhaps the first package for vedic astrologers as 'we' were called in the early 80's. and as I have mentioned at times, why create labels like those, (Vedic astrology, Hindu astrology and even the more appropriate Vaidic astrology!)? When we had an elegant label already: Jyotish!
But, that is fine and dandy! What is in a name! And this is not even meant to be even a feeble protest against our forum on Mystic Board where we are posting and share so much, but our sub-forum is named Vedic-Astrology! If it is renamed JYOTISH (not necessarily in ALL UPPERCASE...!) we will still continue to hear from and cater to the same gentry! That are already here. Back in the 80's when I began my internet journey, Jyotish was difficult word to pronounce for some western brothers and sisters, and they used to address certain jyotishis as "jyoshi"! I ignore that and responded benevolently to their questions and requests, one by one!
Now I read that on other fora, certain individuals are questioning the vedic origins of Jyotish and claiming that in VEDIC (I prefer VAIDIK) times there were no signs known and they were imported from Babylon or Greece or Alexandria!
Maybe, JYOTISH is a better term for it does not rouse these fights and infights, elsewhere!
Michael was/is a very energetic fellow, a buddhist hence peaceful, and did a lot for astrology and including Jyotish and JYOtISHIS who may not have used his software ever but had interactions with him and personally gained from his APPLE BASIC routines that even using a Timex/Sinclair (my first computer) allowed me to prepare a chart and dasas and so on in couple of minutes as opposed to the couple of hours I needed earlier using paper and pencil and tables of houses and ephemeris, etc!
But I NEVER could understand his HELIOCENTRIC perspective! We do not LIVE on the sun (Thank God!) and I have never had any problems in accepting that for Jyotish, geo-based perspective (avoiding geocentric vs geotopical uhapoha!) is the right one! As opposed to season-based zodiac which at the very same instant creates a schism between north and south hemispheres on the same planet. OURs!!
When Sweden is shivering in deep-freeze, Australia is enjoying the warm beaches! And embracing skin cancer from over-exposure to SUN!
So much to think about! If we dare to care...!
Regards,
