Dear Friends,
Googling around one day, I crashed into an Avatar of Lord Shiva called Dakshinamurthy.
The word Dakshin means south and murthy means form. So Dakshinamurthy means the one who is facing south.
The word Dakshinamurthy can also be seen as made up of two words: Dakshina and amurthy. Dakshina means able, skillful, and competent. amurthy means formless. The Lord who is formless in his true nature is also the competent creator, sustainer, and dissolver of this universe through the power of maya.
Now, I want to have a picture of Lord Dakshinamurthy at my home, Puja-sthaan but am confused with the direction to place the picture at. Will it be fine if the picture faces West i.e. like the pictures and idols of other deities? Or I will have to abide by the meaning of the word Dakshinamurthy and have to place it facing south only?
I seek the guidance of our learned members to throw some light and help me placing the picture rightly.
Thanks,
Rajiv Kejriwal.

Dear Rajiv ji,
Namaskar...
As for as my knowledge concern, the picture of Dakshinamoorthy can be placed like other deities.
In order to have more power for the picture and as well as to get complete result you may place it facing south.
Thanks
Krishna

Thank You Krishna Kumarji for your valuable advise.
I however have already placed it facing West i.e with other deities' pictures coz I couldn't find appropriate place in the southern part of my home temple.
You understand we don't normally have space in the southern wall(s) for deities. So I have put it on the eastern wall with the picture facing west. Hope this will do.
Thanks once again.
