I have read in many books about the good and bad effects due to the degree of planets but unable to find a proper source to explain the concept.

Anyone can please throw some light on this?

Degrees of planets determine the position of planets in the rashis. Exaltation of planets is calculated based upon their longitudes in the exaltation rashis.

Similarly planet in middle of its own rashi in degrees is more stable and well placed than one towards the edges of the rashi.

does degree hold all that importance.
1) a planet in the first navamsa of moveable sign is vargottma
2) a  planet in the last navamsa of dual sign is vargottma
where as it lies in the first or last 3.20deg
Jupiter is exalted in 5deg of cancer where as per degrees its dead.
So does degree holds the importance of being dead infant youth old etc only ????????

In Vedic astrology, the State (Avastha) of the Planet can be identified with the degrees as said by "Sutradhar". Similarly comparing with the other charts like (Navamansha) D9, Vargottama Planets can be identified to check their contribution in interpretation.

If you apply the Context of KP (Krishnamurthi Paddhati) then each degree of the planet has different meaning as the interpretation depends on the Star Lord ([url=http://www.mysticboard.com/mb-free-nakshatra/]Nakshatra[/url] Lord), Sub Lords or Sub-Sub Lords (sometimes) of the planets. Secondly, KP takes Bhavarambha Method (Start Point degrees of House), hence the degrees of the Planet may push them to other Bhavas changing the interpretation.
