Hi
These Hora and Hora lord(s), Dina lords, Tithi etc are the Primary elements of our Ancient Hindu and Hindus Panchanga
Westerners took Hora word from Vedic word and called it Hrs (Hours) which means TIME took Dina and called DAY Dina = Day now..
These all Panchanga elements have significations in one's birth (Natal) chart..
but mostly used and have influence while analyzing the Prashna Kundali i.e. Horary Chart
Hope this helps

It is from
Srigaruda.com: a Vedic Astrology (Jyotish) site by Visti Larsen
The lord of the Day is the daylord itself, whilst the lord of the hour is based on HORA.
o HORA o
There are three types of HORA or Hour based on how TIME is following the Sun god.
Basically these three can be divided into two groups: Those who follow the Sun, and those who don’t.
They are called:
Yama Hora: which starts from sunrise and follows the Sun, just as Yama followed his father Vivasvan (one of the twelve adityas). This is used for birth charts.
Kala Hora: When Kala jumped on Yama’s head and Yama was forced to carry him everywhere he went this type of Hora was created. It caused the father (aditya) to leave to find his wife, and so also caused Yama to limp very slowly (like Saturn thus another name for him is also Shani but is very inauspicious due to the obvious).
This Hora specifically is used in day-to-day activities and starts independently of the Sunrise, namely at 6 AM. It however uses LOCAL MEAN TIME, which is based on the persons position in the form of longitude. Hence this is not exactly 6 AM but can be some minutes efore/after the same depending on ones longitude.
Mahakala Hora: As the name implies this is similar to Kala Hora being that it doesn’t follow the Sunrise. It however follows the generic clock used in that entire country/place of living and starts from 6 AM. This is mostly used in Prasna.
Now, if you have observed carefully you will find that these Horas depend on whether Yama is following his father (Sun) or is forced to follow kala (Saturn). This pair of Sun Saturn are also the Karakas for father depending on ones birth in Day or Night respectively. There is a lot of depth to this in predictive Jyotish.
