| I am sure you are aware Ayanamsa ( from ayana "movement" and aṃsa "component") is the Sanskrit term for the longitudinal difference between the Tropical (Sayana) and Sidereal (Nirayana) zodiacs. Ayanamsa has nothing to do with the calender per se. Another very logical question might pop up as to how this entire phenomenon is going to affect Vedic calculations. The Vedic scholars have used this phenomenon to signal a change of yuga, you can find more on this at http://2012answers.info |
Let me put down my understanding (or the lack of it

). obviously to be corrected.
Ayanamsha is caused by precession and the point of reference that is used is equinox which may not correspond to 1 deg of capricorn which is the winter solstice. Nevertheless since the entire precession cycle takes 26000 years and one such is completing in 2012 from whatever reference point that Mayans took, I assume that this cycle should be completed for vedic reference point also in some other year when we need to reset the ayanamsha to zero. I wanted to know which year is this and whether vedic reference to apocalypse (pralaya) are linked to this year.
