Well Balaji, the placidius system is operative in the K.P. system of prediction which I use in my predictions very accurately.
K.P. uses our bhavamadhya to be the start of the bhavas, but it should not be used in traditional astrology. B.P.H.S. is interpreted by so many people and there are viewpoints.

I tend to agree with RishiRahul here.
Different people have different analysis of Brihat Parashar Hora Shastra. Precisely, why you should read it on your own - preferably with somebody learned as your Guru - and decide for yourself. Astrology is such a vast and multi-dimensional playground, people are bound to have different perspectives and strategies. You can't agree with them all. You can't disagree either, but you can't and probably must not follow every such claim.
That's why it's important to read these classic books before venturing into modern days books or even thoughts/processes of modern day Astrologers. Dr. BV Raman and KN. Rao being the exceptions. Classic books give you a firm grip over Astrology. If you master those, then you can develop a strong base, which can help you in the future to refine your astrological knowledge and predictive powers.
Another important step is Mantras. There are certain Mahamantras Astrologers should meditate on daily. This helps develop intuition and predictive abilities, along with avoiding such confusions as you came across. But BEWARE - only use Mahamantras and NOT Kshudra Mantras. Anyway, I don't know a whole lot about Mantra Shastra, so those who do know can add their inputs.
