Hi all,
I've been reading Dr. BV Raman's, "My Experiences in Astrology" recently, and during the initial chapters, he states that his grandfather, B. Suryanarian Rao told him that Jataka Chandrika is the best Astrological classic for learning the basics as well as advanced principles - for a starter mainly. This came as a surprise to me. Personally, I haven't read Jataka Chandrika yet. I haven't even bought it. I was always intrigued by Phaaldeepika and Upadesa Sutras. In fact, there is something that has always drawn me towards Phaaldeepika.
Anyway, what are you opinions regarding Jataka Chandrika and other Jyotish classics? Which one helped you the most? What is the "best" classic available out there?
On a different note, I've heard many people say that Brihat Parashar Hora Shahtra is necessary for any student of Astrology. In fact, most recommend this book, although I personally feel that when it comes to disclosure of Astrological fundaments, I've found other books far more gripping. Regardless, what are your stances on the book? There are people who don't consider BPHS valid anymore as well. They don't call it invalid, but there are people who say, times have changed since Dwapar Yuga and we must apply those changes based on newer books (Saravali, Phaaldeepika, Brihat Jataka, etc). Didn't Maharishi Parashar also say something about BPHS's relevance to Dwapar Yuga mainly?
Clarifications/information regarding this is welcomed.
Thank you,
Radhe
