Imagine a cow tied to a peg by a rope, the peg is Fate or Destiny, there is nothing the cow can do about it. The rope is the Free-will, its elasticity & its length are decided by Past & Present Karma’s. The cow can do what she wants within the area covered by the rope.

Agree, it is a very good picture, and is valid even for me who believe in free will, because as stated before...we can't do everything, we can't achieve everything, but we have the choice to try
RishiRahul=It is valid for all of us, because we all believe in Free Will. Some believe in Total Free will.
It is due to Free Will that Remedies in whatever sort, exist.
If we cant do everything/achieve everything, as you said/agreed above today, there is no complete/full Free Will.
The TRYING is there, as everyone tries within their AMBIT/SPHERE.
This AMBIT is the TRUE/AVAILABLE FREE WILL.
Thank you for agreeing that we must try. Vedic astrology NEVER denied it.
What the above saying was not telling, is how long the rope was,(who can measure karma?) and what soil the cow was in...with that lacking...we put ourselves in a barren soil, or if the imagination and will is greater, in a fertile one, and with that I also end my contribution to this, to a great relief for many |
RishRahul= Yes, it is a very good picture, as agreed by you too!! We all also believe in Free Will.. the differences are its extent.
Ramakrishna ji was talking about a normal rope...nothing abnormal. He was thinking of simple thinking. A normal rope has a bit of elasticity, unlike a plastic rope.
The elasticity is the same as a normal rope..... A normal thinking.. not extended by imagination.
The length is enough and similar to that we would tie a goat to a tree so that it cannot escape.
If you had a goat and would tie it to a tree, imagine what the length could have been for such/normal purposes. Unless one would like to over extend imagine imagination to make it longer than required.
Also,tThe free will we are talking of relates to PRESENT KARMA.. present life.. unless one has understood wrong.
