SPORTS PREDICTIONS AND THE ACCURACY OF HINDU ASTROLOGY

KB SINGH
13 July 2008, 8:59 PM
(Kush Singh, the writer is an MBA from Leeds Univsity in UK, a keen astrologer and now based in London. He come from a dignified Rajput family of kings and politicians. He has covered sports with his deep knowledge for some English newspapers of England)

The biggest criticism for astrology has come from the so called neo rationalists who have termed astrology as a medium of escapism and negative thought. The group of people who have attacked astrology have been those who have questioned the validity of the science with regard to the success rate of the predictions. The time has come now when genuine astrologers must attack these neo rationalists with regard to their scientific predictions.

Let us begin with the climate and weather forecasts. The Met offices all over the world fail to accurately predict the climate and weather conditions year after year. They have all the required devices, latest state of the art equipment, highly qualified researchers and still it is a disaster when it comes to forecasting. In spite of their poor record, they remain highly motivated when it comes to having respect from society and they are hailed as intellectuals.

On the contrary, look at the limitations of an astrologer as a forecaster.

For starters, they have to depend on the birth time which is not always accurate. Then look at the appalling resources available to them. Of course, the astrological community must happily put their hand up and accept that there is a large number of quack astrologers, with no moral or technical power but that is a dilemma faced by every community the most prominent amongst them being doctors.

The biggest handicap is the lack of self respect for an astrologer in society. It is a very nerve racking situation for the genuine astrologer and hardly motivating. Against this backdrop let us look at a recent prediction and let us appreciate the greatness of the science that is astrology.

In September 2007, it was predicted that the Roger Federer era would end. Let us spare a thought and look at the courage behind the prediction.

" Roger was still the number one player as per the WTA rankings when this prediction was made.

" Followers of tennis would know that Roger's strong in the second half of the
Grand Slam season beginning with grass. So it was not a case of predicting during a time when Roger was expected to fare badly.

" The first major grand slam to be played after the prediction was French Open and it was not that Roger was defeated, but instead he was mauled. " Roger never lost so badly at clay and the prediction about the beginning of his end becomes more respectable "

But the beauty of the prediction came on grass on which Roger is king. Suddenly he lost his supremacy and weaknesses began to creep in his grass court play.

On both occasions his opponent was Nadal. Look at the limitations of the astrologer. We do not even have the horoscope of Nadal.

It is the greatness of astrology that such predictions are possible to make even when we don't have any information about both contestants in a sporting contest.

For budding astrologers it is a lesson in the importance of the dasha chiddra and as soon as the dasha changed we could see the changes. The forehands going wide and the volleys going in the net.

However, we must also notice the period of Mercury in the twelfth house, sure it is that of retirement but what about Roger the businessman. Mercury is the 2nd and 11th lord.

For now, can we just sit back and marvel at the accuracy of astrology and its superb power to predict.

Yes, there are dirty and murky astrologers who give the subject a bad name just like the doctor who operates on the wrong leg by default.

Where are the so called neo intellectual scientists with their repeatedly flop predictions? Bring them on.

Hi projenator,
Nice to read this topic of your though i havent read it fully coz of lack of time and patience .
will add something from my side and will read it later.

I will mention 2 points:-

1.Medical Science:- I have seen many doctors doing wrong diagnosis even in very serious cases where they r getting paid more than required over the table and under the desk......I have to go to around 5 doctors myself to get to the rigth diagnosis /conclusion that what im suffering from...and problem was nt tht big also..If they can mistakes and can remain have trust of people why not astrologer atleast astrology shud be trsuted if NOT astrologers like we can trust medical science(even though it has bigger failures) and not doctors..

2.Darwin's Theory :- Whole world believes that we humans r created from monkeys/Apes...without realising there is a missing link.Even Darwin said that till the time that missing link is found we CANNOT be sure that humans r created from monkeys..
But still whole worls belives this HYPOTHESIS....

I believe that sometimes we may or may not understand the  whole concept of  any logic but when we cant(like in case of astrology)we should make judgement by observing effects and results like in case of Blackholes...Electrons...Gravity and so on.
I hope i am able to put my point clearly...

Regards,
Raman

Raman,
You touched a very sensitive chord, that's my daily struggle at work, I evaluate physician performance/hospital performance for a living, using scientific analytic models, not astrology. Once I get back from work every day, I put on Hanuman chalisa and silently pray that day doesn't come when I have to go to a doctor or a hospital, need I say more ? The common man has no idea how pathetic it is. A quick counter argument might be Mayo clinic, Cleveland clinic, CMC Vellore and a few other superstars but think what percentage of the world population have access to those? I use homeopathy and ayurveda for common ailments and by god's grace, it has worked for me until this day.

To be honest with you, my profession somewhat actually reinforced my faith in astrology. I strongly believe if the medical profession can survive, so can astrology.

Dear projenator,
Nice to get your reply....and great to know you thoughts.I always say and believe that we should have an open mind that is the only way to grow and learn....Be it astrology or be it medical science or any other thing where we may or may not have reasoning..i feel reasoning is our way of understanding things and sumtimes we create them just for sake of our understanding...

1.Astrology is our biggest example in which we try to justify and give reasons after the event has happened. We think we wouldnt have missed the event if we would have considered X,Y,Z aspect of a horoscope...but i always some how believe that till the time we cant explain things without knowning the events beforehand we cant be 100% right...and we havnt done our homework properly....Like  my recent topic  "Reason for Disgrace" where i cudnt see it happening beforehand and couldnt pin point that it can happen at the work place and cud result in DISGRACE and loss of prestige....That is why im asking question in that topic coz i wanna know what i shudnt have missed BROADLY,which perspective it is easy to see and i cudnt see that,.....Though we all can use different techniques and approach to justify the event but my point is what i shudnt have missed and what i missed(combination which is quite obvious).Which any other learned person wouldnt have missed.

2.I still couldnt believe few basic concepts or hypotesis of Science, where decision or concept has been created after observing the effect. For Example :- Hydrogen Bond:- Reason for expansion of ice after getting cold..

Presense of Electrons and Protons :- This has ben recently denied by World renowned Stephen Hawkins by his theory which says every matter has got proprty coz of presense of String(and not electron and proton) in them and its the direction of the string which decides about its proprty.....

So you can see we still ned to travel a long distance till the time we can totally unfold what has been created by him...thus sometimes we have to accept few things by their effect  and not by logic coz logic can created for things which we can understand and there r enough things in this world to tell us again and again that we CANT understand everything including simple disease called "COLD" .

Sorry if im moving away from the topic.

Regards,
Raman

Projenatorji, everything in life must be taken with a pinch of
salt. If we completely rely on astrology, we will handicap
our freewill greatly...not to mention our faith in the Lord might
take the  back seat!!
If one is looking for a bride and an astrologer tells them that
"she" will arrive at this period, and you suddenly meet a girl
whose charts match urs, but nothing happens between the
two of you, then you say astrology has failed you. But the true
culprit would infact be you, whose reliance on astrology crippled
them so much that the use of ur own freewill and emotions took
a back seat, and nothing happened!
Again, everything in life should be taken with a grain of salt.
Becus God has given us a mind and heart to be able to react
to circumstance, already written out for us. You'd be a fool to
dismiss a Higher Power operating here, and that power is not
too far from us...infact it is within us....
