Hi All,
I am trying to determine ascendant of a new born in our family. The problem is that the birth occurred in southern hemisphere(43deg South). As per my knowledge few rashis(six) are of longer ascension in southern hemisphere during winter and other six of shorter ascension during the same period. Opposite of this is true in nothern hemisphere. I have MB software to determine ascendant and it gives me different result than other softwares I have. I was just wondering which Software/calendar I should follow to determine the correct ascendant. The birth time and date of the new born is 1st June 2008 20:12 Local time. The birth occurred in zone GMT + 10.

The Rising Sign (Lagna):  

The earth is a spheroid (sphere flattened at the poles) rotating once a day around its axis; the earth also revolves around the Sun once a year. Thus each of the 12 zodiacal signs seem to rise with the Sun, at the beginning of each of the 12 solar months.

Thus the Lagna (also called the Ascendant) is that particular point of the ecliptic (the apparent orbit of the Sun) considered with reference to the horizon of a particular place. The degree and the sign in which the Sun rises will be the Lagna at the Sun rise time. The zodiacal sign which rises at the time of birth is the birth lagna.
