Ive come across a very interesting conundrum. The maha dasha's in shodashottari follow the sequence ..Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Ketu, Moon, Mercury, Venus. However what sequence do the antardashas follow.

In BPHS as translated by GC Sharma and in a book on Shadashottari dasha by VP Goel under KN Rao's guidance, it is written that the 1st antardasha is of the Mahadasha lord and then the same sequence as the Mahadasha follows...so in Ketu Mahadasha antardashas would be Ketu , Moon, Mercury.....just like in the Vimshottari Dasha system.

Would you agree? A very well regarded astrologer of the Pt Rath school says its exactly the opposite. ie in Ketu Mahadasha, antardashas would be Sat, Jup, Mars, Sun.....

Any views?

Views are views. There can be diverse views. Would not it be wise to check it out with actual birth details of a persn who is born with lagna in moons hora in krishna paksha, or Sun's hora in Shukla paksha (shodashottari das is applicable for such natives).

Then with some discussion with the other esteemed astrologers of the board like Vivekji, Govardhantji, Avamji, Sandhuji, Milindji and others we can come to a better conclusion.

May the mentioned, and other astrologers agree to participate in this thread. With their confirmation I will place the birth details of RishiAurobindo Ghosh....but only after receiving their confirmation; and of course yours.

Which kind of calculation is more correct, do you feel?

The following is from Narasimha ji's paper on Tithi Ashthotari Dashaa.

Antardasa Schemes
Suppose[maha]dasas go as: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H
Suppose we want antardasas in C.
There are 3 schemes:
Jupiter: C, D, E, F, G, H, A, B
Rahu: B, A, H, G, F, E, D, C
Ketu: D, E, F, G, H, A, B, C
Jupiter’s scheme is used in most dasas.
Rahu’s scheme is used in Shodasottari dasa.
Ketu’s scheme is used in Ashtottari dasa and also Tithi Ashtottari dasa.

Shodasottari Dashaa's ruler as such is Raahu and hence the order of Antardashaa is as per Raahu. Though Sanjay ji in his book gives the regular order for the Antardashaa.
