In course of my jyotish education, I have read quite a bit about giving predictions only using bhava/chalit kundli. I would appreciate if some of the more experienced folks on the board share their experience or their thoughts on this.

You are absolutely in the right track  in learning.

Whether Bhava chalit is a part of Jyotish or not; whether it was later added or earlier is another story. My instinct says that it was very much a part of Jyotish, like the Tajik system was too.
The Tajik system was an exchange of thoughts between the Indians and Persians, probably during trade in the very earlier ages when barter occorred betwen the our West coast and Persia.

I always check my predictions using the bhava chalit too, and it is no doubt important. Bhava charts are like focussing into a Lagna chart....fine tuning... better understanding... later life.  Whereas rasi=== more of early life. Similarly apply nakshatra dasa effects. Frist two thirds part of dasa=more of rasi effect. Later part=more of bhava effect.

It is much advanced application and early learners and even mid learners would/could not be able to apply it usefully. This being the reason I was trying to avoid discussing it, but Sandhji, as usual, provoked me (healthily as usual) by making me remember an old thread.

                   Thanks for chipping in, actually I did follow the previous discussion, (link to which has been posted by Sandhuji) but I wanted to dwell more on this since recently I have been working on a chart which changes significantly in bhava/chalit ( 6 planets including the shadow ones advance to the next; the most I have seen ) and it's been challenging to pin the native down with the rasi chart only, so I am rest assured of the significance of bhava/chalit. If you could clarify one doubt, if you will

Say venus is in 21 degrees Virgo in rasi chart in the seventh house but moves to eighth house in bhava/chalit chart, it still remains debilitated for prediction purposes right ?

BUT, predictions should be given considering venus in the eighth house
