Dear All,

Not trying to provoke a discussion about problems with modern software, I would like to bring to the attention of individuals about one issue which can lead to a real problem, perhaps with many if not most astrological software!

Ironically, the problem is not due to the software but the fact that in Canada (and elsewhere in North America) the DATE of changing the time from standard time to daylight saving time (and vice versa; the spring forward and fall backward time changes) has been altered in recent years! The software is still following the old convention. So, if you are using software to cast a horary chart or for births that are taking place, be CAREFUL about correcting for the Daylight saving time. For instance a child born on 9th of March 2008 in Toronto would not be automatically corrected for DST (which is in effect today!) by your astrosoftware and you would have to manually correct for that!

This REAL issue can lead to an error by ONE WHOLE HOUR!

Now back to the regular programming as they say ...

I can understand that such a thing can make fuzz for a novice in Astrology....or for one who are more learned in Data then in Astrology.

Since learning of Astrology takes several years, I assume that a Astrologer, who know his trade, would know this gap....else...what is the use to study for Astrology when all it takes is to study the manual

Hmmm....it seems if Novice and Data freaks cash out enough Gold, they can have a program that help them with this task.

I assume that a program warehouse with respect for itself, upgrade their program if a DST is changed, else their "trust" among Astrologer, who have given all their hard earned Gold to the firm, would stop to trust the whole program, if this easy subject was wrong, what about the more serious ones?

This I build on their statement that DST is automatic delivered....if not...claim refund...the program is way to costly to allow such error.

The change I was talking about is recent (probably a couple of years or so) and is something that software programmers should not necessarily be held responsible for. I think their claim for automatic DST change held good but since some of the countries (actually not even all states in a country!) decided to change the cut-off dates it can create some confusion amongst astrologers. Software would have to go through some more sophisticated algorithms (such as those used in computers (aha!!), VCRs and TVs which tune into a time signal or something like that) as opposed to having the set dates they use now which served well for hundreds of years mind you, until recently when some countries figured out that by changing the clocks sooner they would save millions of dollars in energy bills! Mind boggling how big ticket a one hour change can save!

I think/hope most professional astrologers would probably know about the changes but some of the hobby astrologers particularly not from North America may not be aware, but may be reading charts for north americans on this board, hence I sounded the caution

I disagree with your statement.

If this is the policy of the company, which I believe or hope is not, then they have to announce on "Front Page" that their DST don't follow the DST for such and such area. If they don't do that, they are selling a product that promise more then it deliver, and at least here, such a statement would be attacked.

And I believe that in America the Company would be sued for millions of $, because of the havoc they created in peoples life, because of wrong chart

But maybe someone have this program and can enlighten us what the policy are
