[quote="akshaykapoor1973"]Rohiniranjanji,

LOL - good one on the last comment! Your point about new research on jyotish vs scriptual gyan handed down to us from generations is fascinating. Would love to hear your views on this. Is there new research/inventions going on? What are the key issues they are adressing?

What are your on using ur traditional principles written for older yugas in our current yug.

Akshay ji,

There has been a lot of new research done in western astrology, simply because 'new' factors have been incorporated in the traditional system, factors such as different types of house divisions, transsaturnine planets, thousands of asteroids and fixed stars, the Ebertin mid-points etc.

Compared to that Jyotish has a very large 'bag of tricks' (not using that derogatorily, please understand!) already in the classical system much of which has not been described very well or in sufficient details in classical texts. Add to that 'distortions' etc and the jyotish researcher can be perhaps spending a few lifetimes in doing RE-SEARCH in true sense of the term as opposed to inventing new things. I think KP was a major *new* thing that came to jyotish but again there are people who claim that much of KP was based on Gopal Rao Meena's (now long out of publication) cyclostyled notes (if anyone knows what that means without GOOGLing then you are a baby boomer!).

There is inherently nothing wrong with researching traditional factors and certainly nothing sexy in new inventions.

For a large part serious research takes time, resources and I think KN Rao and Sanjay Rath's approaches of getting people interested in jyotish, then teaching them and encouraging them to do research and publish results are very commendable and I pray will bring fruit.

That said, sadly, there is a lot of mistrust and lack of collaboration in jyotish and that simply holds back progress. There is something that one can learn from Rhutobello's post about "shields" that can be applied to serious jyotish readily and as they say, if the glove fits ...

I am sorry Whitey, you missed out on a very pithy and relevant post because of my accent

You see Bengalis pronounce Vakra as Bakra or Bokra or Bokro and maybe you thought we were talking about a goat!

We were not :-(

Dear All
   Technically Retrogression of Planets is applicable only to those Planets which are beyond Earth i.e. the Outer Planets or Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus etc. as Earth is faster than these and they "APPARENTLY" appear as Retrograde or in other words "Moving Backwards" when Earth goes past them, but this is Not-At-All applicable to Mercury and Venus as Earth cannot move faster than these, but we can find vast topics on Mercury and Venus Retrogression.
Somebody Please explain Where and How, am I wrong? OR Is it that the Topic of Retrogression does not have anything to do with Planetary movements, which I don't think can be correct.
There is another feature of "Astangat Grah" i.e. When a Planet goes on to the other side AND in the Shade of Sun with Respect to Earth, any technical correlation?
Regards
Mavv
