[quote="projenator"]Shrikant,
thanks for responding. I was aware of the uttarakalamrita view but lots of eminent practitioners apparently don't agree with that but Dr. Raman's view is interesting. If I am understanding it correctly, it means that all retrograde planets should be taken as exalted. Now exalted planets are considered to be favorable for a native. does that mean the same for retrograde planets. I have read in one of rohiniranjan's posts quoting K S charak about physical defects arising due to retrograde planets. for e.g in times of mercury retrograde which currently is, there are issues with flow of information being slower than usual, information getting lost in transit, failure to get one's point across etc. I have also read that people who have mercury retrograde in their charts either talk too much or talk too less and having issues saying the right things at the right time. somehow I am not being able to convince myself that retrograde planet will lead to an exalted state of the planet
If some of the experienced members (rohiniranjan, rishirahul et al. ) can shed their views on this as to what their experience has been .

Dear Proj!
Since you take my name more than once in your post

I must respond.
I ask just one thing, if I may! Even if you disagree and even if you feel you must abuse me, upon finishing reading this response, please do so out here and not like another 'searcher' who wrote me a private mail here praising my work and writing and blah blah blah and when I did not fall for his trap and spoke my mind, and did not provide him with what he or she was *searching*, the tone changed very dramatically! I told that person to stop PMing me and to waste my time
I have interacted with you recently at many levels and I feel that you are sincere and definitely not *that* kind of person, but this is just the preamble to an answer that you may not life, hence I am protecting my aging 'bacon'!
I do not question your willingness and seriousness to explore astrology, but I must ask you this simple question? Did you read Charak's book which I quoted from about retros causing bodily problems? If not, you made a mistake because you trusted word of mouth! That can be deadly in the 'oral tradition'!
I am very disappointed to see the inclination for personal exploration and searching increasingly vanishing from the younger people who are otherwise passionately taken by or deeply interested in astrology. This does not bode well! Current day jyotishis are blessed in more ways than one! They have access to internet and multitude of opinions and ready wisdom and experience (now that may actually be a negative thing!) and databases, and online magazines and even online pirated scanned classics! So it is not even a money thing as it used to be in my childhood because there were no summer jobs or personal income and asking one's father for money to buy Parashara's books on astrology or the Astrological magazine was at the very minimum, a serious practical problem and had serious and uncertain consequences!
You can rest assured that you are not going to get a unified opinion from any cohort of jyotishis here or elsewhere on any issue. This is because astrology is not a science and not scientific. It is very personal, very experiential and like the field of wheat that everyone knows will grow if you plant the seeds at the proper time and then tend to, watering and whatever else is needed to cultivate the crop. And when it does grow and you harvest it, it will enable you to taste the sweetest porothaa that you ever tasted! For it will have your energy and dedicated labour in it! Almost like seeing one's child raised with love and hard labour at his or her graduation!
Retrogression, like combustion and several such astro-dicta are much overrated, poorly understood and even less based on experience. Your best teachers would be those who have these in their charts and who were mindful of their experiences and carefully remembered those and are willing to share! This is one IMPORTANT area where Internet and your sincerity will bear golden fruit!
I am not trying to give you a lecture and this will be my last post on this matter. You may choose to accept it or ignore it or whatever, but that is a decision you must make!
Blessings (by virtue of my almost senior citizen status! Which I am awaiting eagerly because in the country of my residence I would become eligible for free coffee and donuts in all Tim Horton's!)
