Couls someone throw some light on the difference between the two. I have seen in some cases that they are pretty similar but in others they are radically different.

I understand that Chalit Chart is more astronomically accurate chart. Hence, should it not be better to refer the chalit chart first for interpretation?

This is how i understand this -
The rasi chakra or the D1 is the basic chakra which delineates the position of the planets in the signs in the zodiac. But what about the houses? The vedic system follows the equal house division system. The starting point of a house may spread from one rasi to the another. (30 degrees) The centre is the cusp. A planet may be in a rasi but when you look at the houses the planet may move to a certain house depending on the starting point of the house and the end point of the house. This is what the Chalit chakra shows.
Following is generally followed - the sign position is generally seen from the rasi chart and the house position seen from the chalita chakra.

I have read about sumeet chugh talking about chalit chakra and also emphasizing its importance. He starts the calculation of chalit chakra, using the ascendant and the meridien cusp (MC) Can someone help me figure out MC of a chart from the calculations done by Jhora or any other software ?

Caveat Proj! Medium Coeli (M.C.) is not the same as the Dasham used in Sripati Paddhati as the cusp of the 10th house which with ascendant in consideration is then trisected to come to this wonderful chalit chart which sounds so wonderfully precise compared to the sign charts that astro-bumpkins use!

It is based on a lot of averaging and approximations! If you may want to explore precision, you may wish to read up on some of the housedivisions such as Regiomontanus, Zenith, East Point, even Placidius, Campanus, and perhaps another dozen more that are all based on the geotopical vantage! Little wonder since the reference point in certain systems is geotopical!

Utilizing that automatically in a system that is based on the visible celestial zodiac as opposed to earth-based may need some more thought and experimentation, if I may suggest...

In the jagarnatha hora go to the basics then click the tab at the bottom "house" you get the extent the spread of the house. The tenth house cusp is the M.C
