Gajakesari Yoga is a very general yoga. The strength of Jupiter and Moon singularly and its navamsa positions have a large bearing on this. Gajakesri yoga is like Juiter and Moon guarding each other.

For getting full beneficial effect of Gajakesari yoga:-
1.Jupiter and moon should be benefic for lagna(For makara lagna suppose Jupiter and moon forms gajakesari yoga the native will not get its beneficial effect because both are malefic for makara lagna)
2.Jupiter and moon should be single and should not be associated with other planet or malefic planet.
3.Jupiter or moon should not be in debilitation(In Rasi and Navamsa chart) or aspected by malefic planets.
It is said 25% of population have Gajakesari Yoga. Why is that all are not getting benefitted by that yoga? Only few enjoy the benefit Why?
Jupiter is in a sign for 365 days (roughly), moon is in a sign for 2.5 days or covers the zodiac in 27 days on an average. So, moon will make 12 to 13 contacts with the jupiter in 365 days. or 52 times during the year, it will be in kendra from jupiter. This translates to 52 x 2.5 = 125 days. That is nearly 33% of the days, there will be a gajkeshari from the moon and perhaps more times when there will be gajkeshari from ascendant. Fairly common, as you can see.
Everyone who has gajkeshari, flawed or not, will experience the benefits of the yoga to a variable extent depending on other factors acting upon the two planets as indicated in a later message here.
Today I saw a chart in Jyotish Remedies of someone who is a chartered accountant but jobless for some time. Virgo rising, he has the jupiter and moon in the 11th house in cancer. Moon and Jupiter are very strong obviously, but the moon is very close to sun (amavasya). Before the 'combust' camp starts grinning, the sun in this case is the ruler of 12th house and placed in the 11th house has affected the earnings. He is experiencing ketu dasha and moon bhukti (bingo!).
So it is not just about strength etc but even a saint will be affected by the company of a crook. Kajar ki kothri main jaiso hi jatan karo, kajal ka daag bhai lagey hi lagey!
