Believe me, there is no typo in the Subject header!
After many many years of jyotish and just plain and simple living through the worldly experience with eyes, ears and mind open, as a student of jyotish, human psyche, cyber-realm, and "games people play", I have come to the conclusion that despite what many jyotishis and astrologers recommend, learning astrology based on ones own horoscope is NOT A GOOD IDEA!
Some reasons:
Most people love themselves too much to see the wrinkles and accept those!
And those who do not love themselves must first work on that before taking up jyotish as a way to help themselves or heal other fellow human beings!
People who have a magical belief in the power of jyotish and see it as a mystical power or key to some sacred and secret knowledge would be affected by what they see in their charts or do not see and this can get in the way of normal living! Particularly if there is a tantrophilia and any mild to severe emotional issues or imbalance!
Even those who understand maya and how it is reflected in "jaimini" indicators!
The tendency to become auto-centric (if it does not work in my chart, then it cannot be true and must not be pursued even if based on n = 1, their own chart) particularly if there are planetary configurations in their chart that indicate such tendencies and propensities!
The tendency to only focus on combinations that are in your own chart when reading books like saravali, phaladeepika and jataka ratna etc which give planet in house or in sign readings! Your educations remains limited because of excessive focus on ones own chart! These people should not give astrological advice to others and seriously get a reading for themselves!
Obviously, the above caveats do not apply to those who do not live in the 'I'-zone for at least part of their day! But how many would qualify for that distinction, really? And I am sorry if I am offending someones sensibility or sensitivity!
One of the biggest illusions most individuals have is that they know themselves the best! Or their relatives, for that matter.
Fortunate are those who do not have a birthtime or birthdate etc and are forced to learn jyotish through the horoscopes of others.
Not to mention all the false hopes and the crashes thereafter and the anguish and angst when in sheer dread anticipating a sade sati or bad dasha, in those that insist on learning astrology through their own chart! Life is tough as it is, who needs that extra torture?
