The planet with the highest degrees in a chart is the Atmakaraka.
You can use any software widely available on the net to check it out...

On the *surface* the concept of charakarakas (atmakaraka being the first one) seems almost too simple! It lines up and sorts all planets based on the degrees they attain within a rashi/sign in a horoscope. The one that is most advanced in a degree is the atmakaraka (followed by amatya and other karakas)!
When atmakaraka falls close to a rashi cusp, a problem arises. Depending on which value of ayanamsha you decide to go with (which drummer you march to the tune of, in other words!) your atmakaraka could end up being darakaraka in some other jyotishi's scheme of reality!
That said, you may have been lucky because based on most conventional ayanamshas, Lahiri to Raman and all in between your atmakaraka would be saturn.
I wish you good luck in your further search! It is indeed remarkable to be born at the cusp of a gregorian date (23 59 hours? Wow!) and at the cusp of the *ayanamsha divide*!! Double WOW!!)

Quite intriguing, RRji, the thought that there could be little difference between the Atmakaraka and the Darakaraka. Could it mean a difference between the observer's reality alone or even the observed's reality.
The fine line of distinction between the two could have many an implications too. Am afraid all these abstract and wierd notions arise which may not have any impact on the ground level.
Dont throw a bigger rock, pebbles are ok!

It is actually ground level reality friend. Before using any spiritual or fuzzy logic, if I were interested in exploring this, the best way would be to see in a few charts if experienced reality fits the astrological pigeon hole. If it does not or not reliably, then maybe the box needs to be thrown out or maybe up in this case so that the guy on the oak tree can catch it :-)
