Dear Dr. Tiwari and dear Rishis,
My apologies for what may have sounded as somewhat curt, perhaps even brusque responses from me to your kind messages encouraging me to write more on the topics we have been discussing recently.
There was a time in late 80s, early 90s when I truly believed that it would be possible for internet to create a revolutionary change in jyotish and occultism insofaras information exchange, learning and so on were concerned. How could it not be possible? Imagine the immense possibilities where mind-boggling loads of information were putatively and potentially possible to be exchanged.
And to some extent that has been the case and realized, perhaps not universally etc -- but in many cases!
My own personal astro-education has had a significant component that was kindly provided by the Grace of Kali-awataar, which I truly believe is nothing other than Internet!
That said, and I am not pointing fingers at everyone -- pray let me be clear -- but for the most part, internet discussions, as they are called, are statements, even announcements or pronouncements and not conversations!
The ideal MODE of learning would involve and entail that individuals meet as students do in study groups -- perhaps that was the practice even in the Days of Nalanda and Takshasheela!
These study groups had students alone, students from different levels, but NO teacher! Teachers introduce a problem in any consultative, communicative exercise! They love the sound of their voices and in the internet context: the sound of their typing!
The study group would not be impatient, no one would be higher or lower, no one would have a point to make for personal reasons and hence no one would have an axe to grind!
The study group will be somewhat bounded and limited for a certain length of time so that there is not much flux, not too many new, untested, unsubstantiated ideas that like candies while filling and immediately satisfying are destined to go and collect (you know where in the body!).
And I repeat: NO TEACHER, but plenty of real charts, data and discussion only after observation! This has been the biggest problem of jyotish in modern times (a couple of hundred years at least?). It is way more convenient and attractive to replace OBSERVATION and EXPERIENTIAL REALITY with what passes as logic and discussion and some of it, scarily, actually seems to make sense and to FIT general reality!
The most dangerous, disturbing, distracting and negative illusions are those that masquerade as faithful shadows and reflections of the very object that we wish to accept as and call REALITY!
RR

You are speaking my mind. I am in total agreement with you, but wish you don't limit yourself to raising questions only but, as I wrote earlier, you should put forward your viewpoint so as to facilitate a meaningful discussion which would take this topic to some logical conclusion.[/quote]
