Several years ago, I read Dr. Charak's book (forget the name at this time) and he mentioned that retrograde planets always caused some physical/medical problems. Generally speaking that is probably true. Mind you, this is not definitive research but something that some astute researcher may wish to pick up and look at analytically!
Retrogrades classically have been treated as indicators of strength, particularly when they are benefics (inherent or functional? Not clearly defined!)
See if there is some health/medical/physical problems that may be associated with the retrograde planet. That may add another bit of evidence if Charak was right or wrong.

it is also said that exalted planet in retrogression behaves like a deblitated one and vice versa... in this case the native is likely to suffer from effects of 10th and 11th houses during periods of saturn
