I did not find much use for that too in natal horoscopy, I am afraid.

Those who have practiced and worked with mundane astrology indicate that combustion and graha yuddha have more applicability in that world-view as opposed to natal horoscopy.

I am comfortable with that possibility that some of the 'parameters' are of more use in the astrology of nations and organizations (longer term studies and which conceivably may have a better utilization for slower trans saturnine planets as well) while they find less use in natal horoscopy.

A thought I toy with (never tested) is that the planetary orbital periods have something to do with which planets to include in the analysis. Probably even saturn and jupiter may be of less applicability in the astrology of shorter-lived animals and insects.

On the other hand, and presuming this is even possible or allowed (by God!) if we were able to apply astrology to the journey of the soul (as opposed to its carnated segments -- during its births) we could probably use all the planets and perhaps other solar systems too in our study!

The analogy that comes to mind is that the soul's journey is like the travelling whale. And when it comes up for air, momentarily, it is like the human birthtime which we can observe more directly with our conventional, traditional astrology.

Makes sense?

[quote="arian_1c"]I've never really felt or believed that combustion makes a planet malefic, I don't think that combustion has got anything to do with changing a planets natural or for that matter the temporal characteristics. The only thing I do believe is that it does render the planet a little powerless but then again we've so many other factors to see before we can judge whether a planet is powerful or powerless.
If Saturn is combust, what we've got at hand is the conjunction of Sun and Saturn which is a malefic conjunction anyways.... if Mars is combust, what we've got is an explosive combustion caused by the coming together of two fiery potent planets.

Here, I would like to ask if any body has ever had any experiences with graha-yudha ... I remember I read something like if a planet has entered graha yudha and defeated the Sun in planetary war, it actually becomes a source of power for the planet... I've never actually been able to apply that.

When the sun is a functional benefic as he is for Leo or Sagittarius lagnas for eg, unless he is in the same nakshatra pada or degree as the combust planet, rather than give malefic results, he would impart a benefic influence.

When the combust planet is exalted or aspected by a very powerful benefic such as Vakra Jupiter, the defect is largely mitigated.

Conversely if the sun is weak vis a vis the conjunct planet, for instance sani-sun conjoint in Libra, (unless being within 2 deg of each other), the sun is powerless to spoil powerful sani!

Various analogies suggesting that the combust planet "gets hidden" and that the rays do not reach the earth are ill-founded...the fact remains, that a strong planet can pierce the rays of the sun and benefically influence the native in the above scenarios for instance.

some are of opinion that Mars when combust actually gets stronger - since it is already a hot planet, coming closer to Sun becomes even hotter. So in that sense what the combust mars actually ends up doing wud depend where is this mars placed in the chart - is the increased "hot-ness" causing trouble to that house or native or benefitting it? e.g. in 7th hs it may have a different effect than in 10th hs and for a military guy vs a lady, etc.

ok, consider another condition: mercury close to sun - this is called as nipuna-yoga - conferring brilliant (sun) intelligence (merc) - would the extent of effect vary with degree of closeness to sun - say at 18 deg (not combust) and 8 degree (arbitrarily, but combust) or 1 degrees (deep combust)?
(not considering any exaltation/debil/aspect)
Combustion question.
