ASCENDANT; This is the rising sign. At the time of birth, the rising sign changes every 2,5 hrs. which in vedic astrology is Lagna, and this constitues the first house.

SUN SIGN.: The earth revolves round the sun and completes it revolution in 1 year.  And there are 12 rashis or sign through which it is divided. Hence sun remains in one sign for around 30 days.  During the birth, placement of sun in a particular sign is known as sun sign.

MOON SIGN: Moon is the satellite of earth and completes its revolution around the earth within 30 days or one month. There are 12 signs in total which in vedic astrology is rashis. Hence moon remains in one rashi for around two and half days. thje position of moon in a particular sign, during birth is known as MOON SIGN.

Another way to clarify to the newly initiated is that Sun Signs are usd in Western Astrology while Moon Signs are used in Vedic Astrology. Sun signs span two Gregorian months from 23rd of a previous month to 22 of the next month - following the movement of the Sun. On the other hand, to determine the Moon Sign, look in one's charge and see where the Moon is placed in relation to the sign at time of birth. For example, though my Sun Sign is Capricon in Western Astrology, my Moon Sign is Pices (or Mean) in Vedic Astrology.

For the benefit of the newly initiated: the significant difference between western and eastern (jyotish) astrology is AYANAMSHA! Western uses the seasonal, invisible, tropical earthbound zodiac, while eastern uses the celestial, visible and sidereal zodiac.

no.. i want to kno .. wat those planets n stuff.. effect in us.. wat characterics n stuff.. it shows.. like i hear moon sign is the mind or something..
