Namaskaar Rajith ji,
Bingo!
When ever An Aaroodha of any Bhaava falls in the seventh or the first from it, then take the tenth from it.
Aaroodha is the reflection or an image of the Bhaava and we all know that an image and its source never coincide.
If by normal rules of calculating the Aaroodha, we arrive again at the same Bhaava then the exceptions come into play, the tenth is taken as the Aaroodha. if it falls in the seventh therefrom then the tenth from the seventh (fourth) is the Aaroodha for that Bhaava.

Vivek ji,
Hope you do not mind my intervention in this thread but this point is important. KN Rao in his writings has categorically (meaning without elaboration or specific illustrations/evidence to my knowledge, unlike his many writings agains Raman Ayanamsha) stated that the Banaras Pandits (no idea who he was specifically pointing at) have introduced this <move to the tenth house therefrom if pada falls in the first or 7th house from the bhava whose pada is being calculated).
In other words KN Rao opines AGAINST moving the pada to the 10th. KN Rao also has different opinions about chara dasha (such as, do not apply the one year correction for exaltation. debilitation) or determine the karakamsha from navamsha occupied by atmakaraka but then switch to the rashi varga for the karakamsha chart using the navamsha-tulya sign of atmakaraka.
I raise these not to question Sri KN Rao's opinions (God forbid!) but trying to see if others (and not just you, so please do not feel pressured to respond) are aware of the above and what has their personal experience been about these matters?

Namaskaar Rohini Ranjan ji,
Your guidance in this matter is wholly appreciated and it is a previlage to interact with you on matters Astrological.
I am aware of K N Rao ji's opinion on the Arudha pada calculations. I am not in a position to say if it is right or wrong. I have learnt the pada calculations from SJC and follow it. We are taught that Maaya and reality (Satya) can never coincide and the first and the seventh are the Satya peethas and therefore the Arudha of the Bhaava under consideration can never fall in the first and seventh from it. the next question will naturally be the why does it fall in the tenth from it, for which i have no answer now.
As regards the Kaarakaamsha, there are many traditions where it is the Navamsha tulya raashi concept, in fact my Deeksha Guru in one of his books also gives the same useage but my learning is that the Navamsha occupied by the Aatma kaaraka is the Kaarakamsha and the same Raashi in the Raashi chart (D-1) is the Kaarakaamsha ka.
I could not reply to your post earlier because of some personal matter which prevented me from accessing the inernet.

Quite frankly if I am to be true to my curmudgeonly nature as is well known around here -- often technical questions too closely pertaining to ones own chart, while asked with the intention of learning astrology tread too close to a reading. And when there is a pressing need or desire to know too much about ones chart or ones future with specifics such as these, I have generally been blunt and asked the querant to simply get a reading instead of this piecemeal feast of nibbling! I have always clarified that this was not a 'come-on' for a reading because the individual was free to get a reading from anyone!
Vivek, since you are just being too polite, I thought I will say it on your behalf! You are already providing a lot to this forum and its members through your classes etc.
I hope I am not outstepping my bounds in stepping in and saying what is on my mind in response to the quoted segment of your response to a member!

Namaskaar Rohini Ranjan ji,
Please keep applying corrections as and where necessary. Some may not understand your methods but it is ultimately for their own benefit. I had the same impression about you initially. Now i understand to a great extent your motives behind such blunt responses. Hope others realize this sooner than later.

Dear Vivek ji,
Having seen so much *drama* and hypocricy in jyotish and jyotishis over the last approximately 40 years with very little changing overall (other than information becoming readily available and general awareness rising, as well -- some very intelligent and otherwise successful and well-wounded individuals entering in the field), the 'pitta' begins to show!
Even if I at times may sound critical of Prof. Raman or Sri K.N. Rao or others, my respect for what they have done and what Sanjay and Narasimha (no 'ji' because they are younger than me!) and their association has done is collectively phenomenal and must be admired. Others such as Santhanam, PS Sastry and Krishnamurthy and Chowdhry ji and Bepin Behari are all great and made unique contributions. As did Richard Houk, Braha and others, equally significant contributions also made by software giants such as Erlewine, Boender, Foss, Drutmann, Goravani and Haydn. The common thread that runs in all of these lives is the desire to make JYOTISH accessible to masses. Surely a student of jyotish would be attracted to the common features that make these very different men share a common mission, which they each accomplished very well and continue to do so!
Anyway, I have been hearing that these different ways of calculating certain vargas and other factors are perhaps not in essence right or wrong but are to be employed with different perspectives in mind!
When I was starting out, there was a jyotishi who was very secretive and very accurate. He was a medical doctor who gave up medicine and devoted his full attention to his paitrik practice (karma kanda and jyotish). Sadly, I moved away from Indore and could not learn from this person. One of the things he used to say is that different ayanamshas have different revealing powers. He never explained or revealed that to me but then i was not as focused on jyotish at that time. My inattention and lack of seriousness back then must have generated some bad karma for which I paid a price by way of having to lose a significant part of collected data and my jyotish books for one reason or another. Interestingly, it also landed me in a situation/life experience where when the house was burning (metaphorically speaking) the bare essential number of books I could keep made me learn what those were.
Anyway, thanks for your response.
Rohiniranjan
