As far as I know Atma-Karaka is not the Lagna Lord, this a chara karaka - the planet at the highest degree in the chart  and it is a significator of the soul.

I think by meaning the most appropriate translation of karaka into English is “significator”.

I'm fully aware that Vedic astrology is not an easy science. Moreover I think is not only a science... I have some knowledge in planets combinations, argalas, yogas,  planets strengths etc. and keep on going deeper... I know that 6th 8th and 12th  houses are considered to be evil and destructive houses, but I still can't  understand in what sense soul betrays karakas in 6, 8 and 12th house FROM Atma Karaka.  Karakas in the text were meant chara karakas, not naisargika karakas...

I though a lot about this, cudn't come out with anythin substantial, but this is what I have to say and I feel I know what that means, i request all of u to tell me wat u think abt this
I don't have a good knowledge of Jaimini astrology and it might look like essentially being a jaimini thing, but since it's a subset of Parashars, so I think the rules laid out by parashar still apply...
So, I have always followed a rule while interpreting dasas, that planets in 6-8, 2-12 from each other never do well together, what i mean is that when there is a dasa-antardasa of planets in 2-12 or 6-8, it is never really a good affair, no matter how strong or benefic the planets are.

A similar thing that comes to mind here is a yog formed by Jup and Moon, called sakata yog, which is formed if they are in 2-12 or 6-8 pstns. from each other. In my experience, it is a very bad yog. It plays heavily on a natives mind, with the person having varying dispositions and mood swings, i feel in some cases, it might also make a person a deep thinker, if moon is further affected by Rah and Saturn, and may make person harsh, stubborn and bitter if Moon is affected by Mars, Ket, Sun...

Now, when I think about Sakata yog and try to understand why this happens, I take it this way. I feel that planets in 6-8 and 2-12 never have any favourable or benefic effect on each other and so, moon misses out on any favourable or benefic effect from Jup. Moon which is also called Jeeva and Jup which is considered the karaka for all happiness. So, Jup is unable to cast any positivity on moon in such a situation. I remember when I first started studying astrology and aspects, there was a topic called partial aspects, which to date I have completely overlooked, but I guess it might be interesting to check that out now.

"We know that the Sun, Moon, Venus and Mercury aspect the planet in the seventh sign from it. Now for this purpose we say that these planet aspect the zodiacal degree in opposition (180 degrees from it). The point which is 120 degrees from these planets get a partial aspect of 50%, the point which is 90 degrees from the planet gets a 75% aspect, the point which is 60 degrees gets a 25% aspect and the point which is 30 or 150 degrees from the planet gets no aspect at all."

So, you see what I mean a planet in the 6th house will be 150 degrees apart--> no aspect, no effect, pretty amazing isn't it, I am amazed myself.
30 degrees wud mean planets in 2-12 from each other..amazin, how i 've always overlooked that.

Anyways, I am sure it will be lovely to discuss that, I would love to discuss that further, cuz I have learned somethin new today, again, but lets come back to the topic in question here.
Now, how do we apply what we have just discussed here right now to our question.
I remember another thing I learned when starting with astrology was that , the ascendant (or the atma-karka for jaimini purpose) was the most benefic planet for any given chart, IT IS WHO U R....IT DENOTES YOUR "SELF"....and EVERYbody IS MOST BENEFIC FOR HIS/HER SELF....
So, that means the ascendant/atma-karka/soul for our purpose is unable to cast any positivity to the planets in trik-sthanas or 6-8-12....
so, soul gives up these karkas, but tries to impart a positivity, a benefic effect on all of the domains/spheres of his life....

The Atmakaraka is the King of the Horoscope and Planets in kendra and trikonas from the Atmakaraka are competent to do its bidding while those in dusthanas (6, 8 & 12) would not be able to do it for reasons of ill health (6th and 8th houses) or losses anticipated (12th house).
and those in trika (3 , 6  & 11  houses) will do the opposite or act inimically towards the Atmakäraka and will have to be subdued using the Niti shastra of saama (compromise –11house), daama (money/temptation – 12 house), danda (punishment -6  house) and bheda (discord/divide and rule policy – 3rd house).
