So in vaastu shastra, there is no good or bad directions unlike in feng shui? only to place the correct rooms at the correct place? That means we do not have to check against a person birthdate to get their best directions?

In vaastu shastra, there is good or bad directions. Generally North and east directions are very good for constructing residence. We do not have to check person's  birth date to get  best directions?

So, does this mean that the main door must be facing either east or north? If we are staying in an apartment, than how is this applicable because sometimes we can't control the facing of the main door. So which is a bad direction according to vaastu? Which is a wealth direction?

There are good and bad directions in Vastu. Like someone said the north, east and northeast is best for the main entry. An entry in the northwest is also good, but means instability. An entry in the southeast means problems, but can be compensated with another entry in the north or east. Financial problems and loss can be the effects of an entry in the southwest. You should always avoid a main entry in the south. Of course you cannot change entries that are already there... then you should use pictures of yantras to put some positive energy in areas with defects, so that the bad energies get neutralized.
