I think You also shall take another approach. I think it use wrong drivers.
The way I remember it you have to uninstall your previous drivers before you can install new ones.
1) Change your screen settings to 600x800 (windows limit)
2) uninstall grapich drivers for previous card. (if you have installed for this card...remove them too)
here is from one vendor:
* Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.
turn of pc, this because the old driver is loaded in memory, and change cards.....you have done that
Now hopefully your PC see that you have a new card when it start....else take add hardware....or read the install from your card.
The main question is....did you remember to remove the old drivers?
