I got my first reading today and while I was told the meanings of each card I don't really understand the meaning of the combnatin of all the cards together.

The deck is: Aleister Crowley Thoth Tarot

If someone could help shed some light on this reading it would be greatly appreciated. The ones I am most curious about are the 1st, 2nd, and 6th.

Here's what I drew...

1st Card: Princess of Disks (note: i have yin engraved on my band, my husband has yang on his)
2nd Card: Prince of Disks
3rd Card: 7 of Disks (failure)
4th Card: 5 of Cups (disappointment)
5th Card: 5 of Wands (strife)

because of the 5th card i drew, i was told to draw a 6th...This was the Empress. The most interesting part of this card is that it has the #3 on it, and on the bottom right the female symbol, and on the left a hebrew letter. Now i have 2 girls, one is only 2 months old...does this mean i will have a 3rd or does this resemble something to do with my newborn?

I was told a lot of this is to do with $$. I'm wondering if maybe there's a few meanings within these cards...but i'm really not sure what to make of them!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, I don't think I shall help you so much with your spread, but more give you some thoughts

Tarot is not 9 o'clock news

If you put out such a spread and ask 10 different professional Readers, You might get 10 different views on your layout.

Tarot is interaction between the Reader, the Tarot cards AND the Seeker.

One of the more important things then would be "What is your question?"....I can't see you have given any info about that, and if not, then everything is discussed in general terms, and have little to do with your situation.

Be aware that there are 1000 and more Tarot decks.
Many of them have different meanings, even if we say that some are ground cards.

In my opinion, then a Tarot Deck, in an untrained hand, is just the same as a normal deck of cards, is in another untrained hand...they are nice to look at....but need understanding in order to play well.

For Tarot it is very important that the Reader has the ability to connect to other people, the imagination must be right, not to big..not to low....lets say like a good Poker player...many can play poker...few can do it with ease.

The biggest fault many newborn Tarot Readers do, is to read the descriptions of the cards like a Bible, and by that many times create havoc on the seeker with adultery, stealing, lying and so on.
It is not so simple, most of the time it is because the Reader don't understand the full meaning of the answer that is delivered, and that is why it is so important with imagination, because then one easier see the full picture.

Well there is other good Readers here that will tell you more....I will only again state one important thing;

NO Reading can give you anything, neither can it take anything away from you....you will always have to fulfill the Reading with your own action, and by that you can seek to fulfill the good ones, and avoid the bad ones.

One shall always have RESPECT for the Seeker, and one shall be a very good Reader, before one start to give negative impulses to a seeker, because it is easy to make a wrong turn, and when we first have put a "bad" seed in the brain of the seeker, then this is like weed, even if we say..."Don't think about it".....then better "Don't say it"

I appreciate your advice.....i didnt really seek the reading, it sorta just came to me today, which is what is making me so curious about it. i didnt really go in asking any questions either, i just picked 5 cards and this is what came out. The fact that I never even had a reading beofre, and then the way these cards came out just really makes me think theres a meaning to it.

What i gathered from the cards is that something new to do with $$ is going to come across, and i shouldn't be afraid to take a risk because i may be disappointed. That i need to be optimisic and take action. Ive recently been approached to make an investment that has the potential to make us a lot of money. I've always been hesitant to invest for fear that I'd lose it.....this makes me wonder if thats what it's all about.

As for the 6th card...as mentioned, i just had my second child two months ago, and i had a lot of complications afterwards. Because of that (and other reasons) we decided this would be our last, which is why that empress card strikes me as odd. Especially because it has the number 3, and the sign for a girl.

This is all really making me wonder, because i take these things seriously. Everything happens for a reason, so it has to have meaning.

I've decided to start studying Tarot because i've always had an interest in it. My deck and books are on their way and i'm looking forward to it. In the meantime, id still love some input.

I understand i may get different meanings from different people but that in istelf may allow me to figure it all out.

Hi there,

I agree with everything Rhuto has said in his response to you. Although I am not familiar with the symbolism of the Crowley Thoth deck ( I work with the Rider Waite) but I would like to say that you have subconsciously asked a question and hence laid the cards down. Only you know what that question is/was. You say yourself...... you got your first reading...

Even though someone may not use the same deck, but intuitive or personal interpretation can be possible. We need to have a question though. As for seeing number three as a reference to a third child, I am not so sure about it. On self readings we see what we want (and don't want) to see. You have done a six-card reading for yourself and you have just started learning the tarot cards. This is the wrong way to go to start seeking answers from your own readings. It is best to do One-card or 3-card readings for others before you get to doing a multiple card reading for yourself. And, even then I wouldn't recommend doing self readings.

Furthermore, when cards are picked at random and without a purpose/meaning for their placements, things are just left out in the open for any sort of interpretation.

What is the placement name for each position of this spread?

because of the 5th card i drew, i was told to draw a 6th..
Who told you this and why? What did the 5th card stand for and what was it that motivated you to draw a clarification card?

In my opinion, you have gone about this the wrong way and I, personally, would not like to interpret this 'reading'. Others are welcome to do so.

However, don't take this the wrong way, please. It is great to see new blood such as yourself and working with a different deck.. Please do take part in the forum discussion as I feel it will educate you (and us) on your tarot journey. We are all learning here...

There are some great links at the top of the Tarot forum 'Sticky' and tutorials.

Enjoy your stay with us and don't hesitate to air your questions.

Best wishes to you.

Yes, if we read for ourselves, then we have this connection we talk about.

You then try to fit the cards to your known situation, and you in a way make the terrain fit the map.

When you ask question about specific things, then you have narrowed it down, but the "clue answer" from the book aren't always the right answer, because there is different angels to look at things.

When you say the cards says $$, then that can be anything from overtime at work, helping an old man over the road, finding something on the ground and so on...it is not the same as the Postman will call on your door

But good luck with your study, it can be very nice skill to have
