I am afraid the current employer may seek retaliation (for loss of potential income because I am changing employment to be with the current client) and am considering whether to seek legal advice for eventual protection should the employer goes after me. This fear still haunts my sleep.

First of all...I am ver glad on your behalf that it is movement.
I can't really understand the above.
You are an employee...as employee you have some rights and some duties.
I assume you have a working period after you have delivered your reseign.
If this period of time...mostly 3 month...is some sort of "barrier", then take it up with the one who will employ you...they can't demand that you shall drop out, but they might be willing to "buy" you out..one way or another....have an open discussion with them if you feel insecure, they know such thing..and to go to lawyer now is just an expensive thing.
When a person are finish with a firm, then that person are never as productive as before, and I can't see that they are willing just to be "cruel" to you..since you have means to hit them back by not being as productive as they want.
But I think the best way to go is to discuss thing with the one you have chosen...together I think you will sort it out.
Good luck |
Once again, I THANK YOU.
The legal concern is this:
The current employer had submitted a contract proposal to my current client, naming me as the project manager and key employee. Should they lose this new contract, and depending on how vindictive the current employer can be, they may want to justify that they lost the contract because I went over to the client. The thing is: the client is a Federal agency, and typically private sector companies do not want to mess around with the Fed because they don't want to lose good will. At the same time, the employer has been known to retaliate and make things ugly for departing employees.
Federal govt typically takes about 2 months to clear paperwork, so I have to wait this long before I submit my 2 weeks resignation. My integrity will not let me reduce productivity in the meantime.
The more I talk through these issues, the clearer the light becomes and enables me to accept my decisions.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
