Before giving the reading itself, I would like to say that I may use a term like "karmic" in a way that you may not. I am not religious and have no beliefs about afterlifes or reincarnation. Nor do I believe our lives are predestined. For me we are individuals born with a set of genes and home environment that creates our assets as well as our flaws. Our flaws make us stumble over the occurences that trigger those flaws more easily (and so the events become a trauma), our assets make us deal succesfully with occurences that are personally easily to conquer for us (and so the events become a happy memory). This could be referred to with the word "karma" imo. Rather than see the occurrences and events and persons as fated, I see our personality make-up we start out with being the cause of what may be called karma.
When it comes to relating with other people... I believe there are individuals, who because of their personality, will have a bigger impact on us, or evoke stronger feelings, than other people. Some of those people we might never meet, some of them we do meet. Some of those we meet may have such an impact on us that they are the stimulant to alter our lives, while others who might evoke a strong feeling have no evident change-impact at all.
So, when I say a "karmic relationship" I mean to say the involvement with a person who will have a big impact on you, more than the union of love. These are relationships that give you the opportunity to learn more than you would on your own or from other people. Our flaws provide the most fruitful soil to learn the most. So such relationships trigger these flaws. And we either fall flat on our face, or find a way to turn them into an asset.
People who evoke strong feelings and yet seem to have little change impact would be "twin souls". Their personal make-up is such that we recognize ourselves in them so much that in one way it evokes strong feelings, and uncanny knowing of what they feel and think... but because they are like twins, they have no learning impact on us.
Ok, now on to your question... To simply ask whether this person is in you life for karmic reasons or not is a basic YES-NO question. And Tarot is not the tool imo to gve such straightforward answers. What's more, if the answer would be yes, surely you would be curious what exactly th karmic reason is. And if no, does that mean this person has no influence on your life whatsoever? So, I propose to translate your question it into "what can I learn from this person in my life" or "how will this person impact/influence my life." After all, whether karmic or not, this seems more to the point of what you want to know.
I used my RW deck and a spread called the "Work Cycle" for the question what you "can learn from this man in your life."
Work Cycle spread:
1 & 2 (crossed)
3 4 5 6 7 8 9
1 & 2 -> heart of the matter, with 1 the inner circumstances, and 2 the outer and what you show
3 -> past
4 -> expectations
5-7 -> what you need to work on, need to learn
8 -> outcome
9 -> result on you of that outcome
Heart of the matter:
1 - Page of Wands
Pages stand for opportunities or impulses caused from the outside... With the page of wands this tells that this man caused a passionate and sexual impulse within you. You feel as if something exciting and adventurous is in the air, and that you are being challenged.
2 - 8 Wands
The 8 of wands are also referred to as Cupid's darts. The wands are flying through the air and about to land. This card suggests rapid evolution of the matter, and you can already feel, heck almost taste those changes.
These 2 cards are enough reason to create this feeling of "meaning" within you.
3 - The Past - Strength
In the past you have in a way showed yourself couragous and strong. And you already devoted yourself to this person you feel a passion for.
4 - Expectations - Death
You expect the old pattern and life is coming to an end to make place for something radically new.
WORK
5 - 5 of disks
This card shows the ordeals of financial destitution as well as isolation from society, and importantly it's a love situation card where both partners are the sole support for each other during those times. It may also be a warning for co-dependency... where partners find purpose in giving support in such a way that they will prevent each other from truly overcoming the problems, because if one escapes the mysery they might leave the other.
So, basically this card is warning you that being with this person may coincide with financial difficulties and isolation and the risk of co-dependency. And since people are bound to feel like they need each other in this, it easily gives rise to "meant to be" feelings.
6 - Empress
The Empress stands for the creating force of nature of new life, a fruitful world; for the opportunity to grow; and for nurturing.
7 - Queen of Pentacles
The Queen of Pentacles tells you that you need to learn to remain grounded, not to ignore your need for security. Maybe a realistic woman will give you advice. If so then listen to her. She also reverberates the Empress's nurturing aspects.
Together I see the 3 cards combined as the five of disks revealing the possible pitfalls of any relationship with this man, and the Empress and Queen of Pentacles reveal how to deal with these issues. If you look behind the couple on the 5 of disks you'll not the warm yellow streaming outside through the window, exactly the yellow that envelops the Empress and Queen of Pentacles.
So, the supportive factor in the 5 of disks thus comes from the Empress and Queen of Pentacles. The Empress reveals the 5 of disks is a opportunity to grow and learn, while the Queen of Pentacles advizes you how to avoid the worst: by keeping both feed on the ground and secure your basic needs.
8 - The outcome - King of Wands
The King of Wands is a man of plenty vitality, temper, willpower and motivation. He's an enthusiast, self-confident and individualistic, but also impulsive and impatient for the next adventure. This card in this position means that a person with such qualities and flaws will impact your life.
9 - The result - 2 of swords
Because of the King of Wands you will have growing doubts on what to do. In a way you will be very emotional, but try to rule these feelings with your head. And these doubts will make you become passive, and indecisive, putting the responsibility of what comes next onto others, and thereby possibly not choosing, nor actng and losing an opportunity.
Hope this reading helped you to understand what impact this man may have in your life. Good luck and all the best.
