I agree with your take on soulmates there...
Yes the question presumes that you can learn something from him, for the simple reasons you outlined - anyone in your life is an opportunity to learn something, the more feelings you have for them, the bigger the lesson - and because YES/NO questions do not work well with Tarot (as I explained in my earlier posts before doing the spread).

| I was asking about the more significant changes in a persons life, which mostly is associated with soulmate experiences. |
The cards would automatically show how significant the person can be, and they did. You have 3 Major Arcana cards out of 9 cards in the spread. 3/9 -> one third. That makes it significant. One phase is already in the past (Strength), another life lesson lies in your expectations (Death), and the third which symbolizes cyclical growth is in the work still to do be done in relation to him - the Empress. The hidden theme is the Empress too. So, this means you are supposed to learn the Empress' lessons and any involvement with him will teach you that. I would say, yes he is significant especially at present.
ETA: the Empress is about you learning to be one with your environment... and you do that through your senses: eyes, smell, taste, touch. Where the High Priestess stands for the mystical, the Empress stands for the sensual. If you can see, smell, taste and touch life, then you can sense where life is going in order to be on the right place at the right time (and be lucky).

| It appears as if these lessons are only if i get involved..or are they regardless of that? |
You are already involved because of your thoughts and feelings about him. The more involved you become, the deeper the lesson.

| Thank you for clarifying the 5 of pentacles. I notice they are a couple in the card, and you also make a mention of "us" instead of "you". Does that mean "both together" or is one person taking on more misery than the other? Is there a sense of regret in either of them? |
us = both together ... as in "us against the world"
I'm sure they both regret things (the stuff that made them destitute), but the positive message of this card is that they shoulder it together. They are not alone.

| But, thats a card of misery of some kind, are you implying that you reap what you sow? |
No, I think the Empress helps in seeing the positive caring aspect that is present in the 5 of disks, about seeing beauty and harmony in life even when there are things in life that cause a lot of worry. The Empress asks you to see the beauty, the positive instead of worrying over things you do not always have control over.

and is the queen card advising to be practical and not give in to emotions?
see, this brings us straight to the 2 of swords. this woman has to make a choice. |
The Queen of Pentacles embodies someone who like the Empress can enjoy life and be emotional, and at the same time deal with life in a practical way. She takes care of the 5 of the disks practical trouble, and personifies the Empress. Emotions are not necessarily impractical, and practical is not always logical or rational. The mistake 2 of swords makes is to see emotional and rational in opposition.

Then again, you say it would be wise to open your heart. Is the two of swords an advise to follow your heart?
In conclusion is it, follow your heart, regardless of the consequences there might be. |
Yes. But in order to follow it you must open it. The road to love is by following the heart. Also, with an open heart and your heart as guide you will become more aware whether someone is to be your partner or not. In order to know whether someone is significant for you in your life, you must open the heart, listen to it, and then follow its advice.

| is it that despite the difficulties, its a still a relationship of value? |
I would say that the difficulties probably are part of what makes it valuable. Relationships are not only for the "better" but also for "worse".

| I don't know if he has the qualities of the king of wands. If the whole reading is about him, why should he be in the outcome card? He is creative and has strong leadership qualities. I don't know about the adventurous streak or his impulsive nature. i don't know him that well. |
Most of the reading is not about him, but about how he affects you: how he is affecting you now, in the past, in your expectations, and how he will affect you by the work you need to do. A court card for an outcome card means that these characteristics (or a person with these characteristics) will come into full view, or gain importance.

| You may clarify these if you want to. If you don't have the time, it's ok with me. I understand clarifying the same reading over and over can be annoying. I know i have to do my part of work in applying these cards to my situation and make sense of it. I will try. |
I don't mind explaining at all

But I think you're over analysing things. You seem to try to approach your attraction to him, the reason of your feelings, the reason of him being in your life, and possible closer involvement as an intellectual riddle or puzzle that you can solve, before allowing yourself to feel and trust your feelings. You can't solve emotional riddles intellectually, you only can through emotions. That does not mean you need to fly on cloud 9 and look at everything with pink glasses, but in order to have the answer you must feel the answer, and in the meantime keep handling everyday life.
I don't have the impression he is the love of your life, not from the cards, not from the analytical phase you are in, but I do think that your experiences with him will help you grow and are necessary experiences to learn to understand life and love more through the senses, and learn to create your own luck.
