I wanted to know what type of questions provide the clearest answers? I try to stay away from yes or no questions, but if I wanted to ask a question in regards to whether someone I dated in the past and I will get back together, how would I phrase that. Also is it unethical to do a reading into someone elses relationship or situation without their permission. Sorry if these seem like silly questions

that is actually a good question. it helps to ask the right question.
I usually ask questions like
Tell me what I need to know about...(person, situation)?
What will the future look like for  person 1 & person 2?
What is the truth about...(situation , person)?
What is the best/worst possible outcome?

Just a few I use

You need to ask an open question... the safest are those questions that start with... How/why/what/Which... A question starting with a ver (Does/will...) are usually yes/no questions.

There are some great relationship spreads, but they heavily rely on balanced querent/partner insights (what you want, give, receive, need/what he wants, etc, and I'm hesitant to do them without the partner's consent or even involvement). I don't even do that for my own partner if he's absent. I will try to propose a question and a spread that allows for the querent to learn just enough about their partner for their general benefit, but majorly explores the queren'ts position. These are seldom relationship spreads, but more explorative spreads that explains the relationship more from their pov, with one or two need to know cards.

For the ex-relationship question:

What are the possibilities for querent and x-partner getting back together?

There's a specific 9 card X-Lover spread I know

1 _ _ _ 6
_ 2 _ 7
_ _ 3
_ 8 _ 4
9 _ _ _ 5

1 = relationship in the past
2 = where you are now
3 = where your ex is now
4 = how you feel about getting back together
5 = how your ex feels about getting back together
6 = who/what opposes the relationship
7 = who/what can help the relationship
8 = what is hidden or unknown factor
9 = outcome

The number of cards that take a peek in the x-partner's privacy are a max of 2 out of 9 cards.

This is a spread where I wouldn't have a problem doing a reading for a querent without the x-partner's consent.

Are you saying that yes/no questions aren't useful? I sometimes just want a simple answer to should I do something or not.

The Yes or No question comes about in tarot on many, many occasions.

Different readers have ways of 'extracting' the Yes or No answer. I rarely go down that route and I wouldn't encourage it either. The Yes and the No of a situation is dependant on so many variables, including one's own free will, that I would steer away from it, if I can. I don't do it for myself, and if asked by a querent, I usually try and guide them to asking leading questions like the ones mentioned in the postings above.

The tarot is a great tool for advice/guidance/insight and should be used as such. I also believe if you ask your question in the correct way, I am sure you will get a Yes or No answer in the context of the reading.
