OK. Look at the positive side. You are not homeless. You are not bound by a contract to stay where you dont like - until such time you find a place you like and can afford. In fact, you can call the shots from now on, albeit that you will be paying the increased rent.

Hi Cedars,

As promised I am back with an update. I eventually decided to stay in my present house. The landlord is little more cooperative in getting the repairs. We found a middleground and resolved our problems.
