yes very common!
for some a hard thing to do and for others not so hard. if i don't have strong feelings one way or another, i tend to be able to read for myself. if i feel strongly about my question then i tend to read what i want and not what they are saying. therefore i decided not to read for myself for the most part. if i do read for myself in that high emotional state i don't take it too seriously especially if they are telling me everything that i want.
practice at it and see what you get, if anything you will learn and get a feel for you cards.
